• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Family Laundry

:dontknow: I don't see the need for a pay section of SpyderLovers unless Lamonster needed help with funds. It's not like we get hundreds of spammers or trolls posting here. IMO a Spyder Elite section takes away from what the site was built for.

Lately, the numbers of "guests" exceed the numbers of "members" 170/100.
What can we do to bring to light this "guest" from the shadows?
Why not upgrade the SpyderLovers membership to a "platinum" level? A second site where we wash laundry in the family.

Doc, the idea sounds good, though I am not sure how it would all work out.

I like the idea "knowing" that I am reading or discussing something with a real Spyder owner or "stakeholder", as they call them now-days. In some cases, it takes a while to figure out the real goldmines of information and experience and those who are just blowing smoke.
I also like the idea of encouraging the people who are just reading to participate, as I like hearing fresh thoughts, perspectives and questions.
It does get tiresome seeing the same question started over and over again that has been discussed several times - in the last week - in multiple threads. Lots of new members do tend to ask the same/common questions and miss using the forum Search tool.
I don't care much for creating a "Special" group with certain privileges, no matter if they can dance on tables in kilts. As it is, SpyderLovers is a very inclusive group and I would hate to see that change. While some of us know and/or see other members on one basis or another, when forums get too cliquish, they tend to get off track - keeping things focused on the Spyder riding experience and community is where the real value of this site excels.

Like others have said, I would be happy to buy a membership here - small payback for all the value and smiles I have gotten. Maybe that would come with a Vendor Discount, the ability to rate a posting, or something . . . .

Overall, I would hate to see anything happen that would cut back on the activity and traffic to this site - let alone, all the experiences that get shared.

Just my thoughts.

Tom

It's like starting a secret society!

Wait til you see the secret handshake! :roflblack:

I'm not exactly sure what Doc is after with this--- waiting for him to chime in again.

I really think things are pretty good like they are now.

OOOhhhh, sounds sinister.....:yikes::D

LOL --- yeah-- that's it--- I wanted a folder for only people that can prove they legally own spyders--- they have to provide copies of drivers license, copy of invoice, proof of insurance, library card and a note from their mom in order to join.....:roflblack:

Then there's a two week waiting period just to make sure you'll be safe before posting.:yikes::D

The search tool here like in all other forums leaves a lot to be desired. If you search two or more words, you can go through countless threads before you decide that's not what you are looking for.

But, on the other hand, when the initial thread for the latest DPS problem (taking over control of the spyder for example) was started and then within days someone has started a similar thread, I can see your point that someone is not using the search function at all.

Perhaps, like me, the "guests" are having problems staying logged on. My remember me feature no longer works and rather than logging in each time I visit (which is daily, at least) unless I have something to contribute, I just check out the new threads and then leave. I hadn't thought much about the fact I'm being viewed as a visitor instead of a "happy Spyder owner" and member.
