• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Failing Green Filter installation

SWEET MOTHER'S MILK I GOT THE SOB IN!!!

.....

This machine is so NOT the bike to learn to wrench on. I'm about ready to kick of the E-brake, straighten the bars, and push it out into the street in front of a large truck. Maybe then I could get to parts and pieces I'm supposed to be able to get to.

So, my Green Filter arrives today. After failing at my JBPro install, I think this will be nice and easy. Pop open the filter box, pull out old filter, insert new, close filter box. Riiiiiiiight. Shop manual says unclasp three little clasps, swing box open slightly, make the switch, and close. Shop manual does not say, centerline hinge...or whatever it is in there that I can't see...gets off alignment, box doesn't close, commence further cussing.

I get the feeling this wasn't engineered for ease of maintenance.

So how in the heck to I get this thing back together? I'm at the end of what little wit I started with. Ugh... I'm supposed to be on leave enjoying my Spyder, not pondering my insurance coverage, hoping it gets stolen, and becomes someone else's mechanical nightmare.

I'm going to go take an extra Lisinopril now...

Thanks for any advice from the Spyder Oracles on the boards. :)

The shop manual says nothing about "three clamps", it says to remove the clamps. As the pictures show, there are six, plus one hose (which you may not have to remove). Two clamps on each side, one in front, one in back. Still tight to get the lid out. You can raise it enough to slide out the old filter, though, and slide in the new one.

My bad...nomenclature was misstated. It's three clips I undid per manual. Undid those "tipped the cover out". SOB won't tip back.

Ugh...

Amen, I feel your pain. Of course they don't want you to wrench on it they want you to pay their guy to wrench on it. Good luck. On our first attempt we got one oil change for the price of two.

Sorry, but there are still six clips, clamps, hooks, thingies, or whatever you want to call them, not three.

the RT only has 3 clips. It is a bit difficult to install the new filter. Play with the airbox lid until it hooks back in the slots on the far side. Slip the green filter in and make sure it fits all the way in the lid. Close lid and secure the 3 clips. I just went through this on my RT a few weeks ago.

Oops, sorry!!! :opps: With no RT here to remind me right now, and not paying attention to which forum I was in, I got confused. I apologize! The RT is a real wresting match, with just enough room to slip in the filter...if you hold your mouth right! :D Just getting to the clips is a chore. If you think this is fun, try removing the airbox to change the front spark plug. :yikes: Working on the RT is not for the meek of heart...or those in a big hurry.

I'm new enough here that I ususally just check things out daily. I almost always learn something, and usually get a few laughs. But this makes me feel better about paying the dealer. When people that do have mechanical skills have trouble working on the spyder, I would be hopeless. Picking up my spyder today from the with several mods: Elka shocks all around, two brothers exhaust, juice box pro, green filter, windshield, and kuryakin grips. if i tried to do that i probably wouldn't even be able to find all the pieces, much less put them together. can't wait.
