• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Factory Instructions for changing Oil and Filter

Dealer

I went by dealer today and was told no recalls or update on mine 2012 spyder RT. That I would have to call BRP to get a voucher for the replacement panel. Then they would order one and install it at no charge. But was told that it does not help any at all on doing oil change or to access to checking oil level. Any input on dealer comments greatly appreciated ?

Did you read the link I gave you to Lamonster's post? If not do it the deal is full of male cow excrement . I would believe Lamont over any dealer.

My dealer isn't thrilled with them. They have seen very little time savings. They did give me the option of switching mine out, but I remove all the panels when my change the oil to perform a thorough inspection, so a few more screws isn't a big deal. In fact, compared to the 39 screws on my BMW, the Spyder is a breeze.

I like the panel

Personally I like the new panel a lot. The grill lifts off and it gives more room to check the oil without skinning my hand (heart meds make skin very thin and it doesn't take much to tear), and with the lower panel off I find it easier to get at the transmission filter. Also, I do the changes for a couple of friends, one a lady and one disabled, and I wouldn't want to pull all the tupperware off their machines. Without the panel they'd have to go to the dealer to get it done. A little bit of convenience means a lot at my age! :D

If you're a do-it-yourselfer, email BRP for the voucher, or check with some other dealers who might still have one in stock. My dealer didn't have to have "vouchers" so I know some got the replacements without them.

On both these and mine, the belly pan has been permanently removed so thats something you'll want to consider doing.

I, too, take all the panels off for an oil change to get a good look around and tighten the battery terminals. But I like the new panel. I do my changes with the bike on the ground and getting the old black panel out was always a real trick and getting it back in was worse. I have an SM-5; it may be easier on an SE-5 if the shift linkage is different. With the new panel, it's much easier to get it out.

And as I said in an earlier post and as ulflyer said, the trivial item of checking oil is much easier with the new panel and getting a funnel in there for additions is easier as well. Just my opinion.

I do mine on the ground, too. I never had much trouble with the panel, but it does have to be flexed a bit to get it in and out.

So I am confused as to why the OP did not get the panel as Lamont said they gave them to everyone :dontknow:

I did get the new panels. I wrote about it in another post. I did my oil change with the bike still sitting on the ground. I do not have lifts or ways to elevate my Spyder.

While the new panels give you access I still think removing the panels the old way allows you much more leeway to work on your oil change while allowing you to inspect your Spyder. Even my dealer says they still remove the panels the old way to do oil changes.

Here's a link to the letter I received along with a copy of the voucher and the new pages for the manual.

My dealer says they still remove the panels the old way to do oil changes as it allows them more options in examining and viewing other parts of your Spyder. I see other posters have commented similarly and don't feel the new panels do a great deal to improve efficiency. A nice feature if you want to take advantage of it but there are reasons to still remove the panels.

Don't forget that there is a hole to be drilled in the vertical support as shown in an old "Lamonster" thread. My dealer put it in for me and it make a huge difference.

I haven't done a change yet and plan on doing it. What was that hole for and does anyone know if the 2013's came from the factory with it pre drilled? I am going to take a WAG here and guess it is for a socket to go on a filter cover nut?:dontknow:
