I've had a short email exchange with Don Frank of F4 Customs. Below is an extract:
ME: "The rumors are out that you're developing windshields for the Spyder F3. Any truth to that? Any chance you'll have something ready "soon?"
Just saw that you’re going to be at Spyderfest. I know it’s a short fuse, but if you’ve got something for the F3 that’s taller/wider than the “Blue Ridge” (hopefully with a venting option) I’m sure I’ll not be the only one in the market for one at Springfield.
DON: I know but not sure I can be ready by then. i will keep you updated as we progress. I think we the shield has to be more upright in order to be longer and wider and be effective. What are your thoughts. If you are on the forum and want to post a question to the F3 Riders on the desires they would want in a shield and feed that back to me that would help.
ME: Actually, it's mostly the height that seems to be the problem. The blue ridge does a good job of keeping the buffeting down to a minimum, but the air flow over the top hits most riders right in the face. I'm 5'10" and use a half-helmet. Without a face shield, the wind is pretty wicked. With the shield, it's not too bad,
You might want to look (on BRP's site) at the "Route 66" shield that they discontinued before they even sold one. Not sure what the problem was with that, but being about 3" taller than the blue ridge, it seems like it would have been a great alternative."
So, jump in if you want....
