F3S Rear Shock and spring boosters

In talking with my 2015 F3S dealer about options on the rear shock and the
lack of interest by the mfg. and their recommendation to buy a Fox shock
was not exactly what I wanted to hear. So, my tight wad body says o.k.,
we will go a different route. I hauled myself down to the local Auto Zone
and latched onto a set of rubber coil spring boosters and a set of aluminum
twist in spring boosters to play with. I have used these in the past on my street
rods to set up stance and traction.

Now my question for the experts, engineers and experienced or opinionated people on this forum which
would be the best to use? The aluminum ones would be easier to use and give a stiffer
ride than the rubber ones but would I be asking for trouble because there would be no
give at all. Where as the rubber ones would have some compression.
Feel free to jump in here and express your thoughts. It may be that I will have to suck it up and
get a Fox shock. The main reason for all this is I weight 195 and my wife weights 130 and this combo
Get me a 3" sag and one heck of a tight belt.

Better Rear suspension

I have a 14 RT and my issue was the front and I didn't want to pay for SUPER Shocks either ....So I just changed the Angle ...my problem was solved ............Now your situation is completely different ( sort of ) .;.... I could have put Spacers in the Springs which would have stiffened up the ride ...however when you lose spring travel, it makes the ride harsher. There are talented folks here who have put stronger SPRINGS on the RT and doing so on the F-3 should be no different .......imho that's the route I would look at ....... maybe someone who has done the SPRING swap will chime in ........Mike

As I see it...

you have them both so I would start with the rubber ones for a smoother transsision and if still lacking go to the aluminum ones. If after that you are still not where you want to be start looking around for a better shock. Maybe by them Progressive will have one and they have some great ones in europe Martin mentioned...

Rear shock

After replacing the frame on my F3s Se6 !I fitted a stage 4Elka shock and more than happy with the result .

I decided that the rubber spring boosters would work best for a trial effort.
I used the tall side and had to clearance the side that went up against the
shock body to get them to fit snuggly up around the curvature of the shock
body. Installed they reduced the sag to about 1" instead of the 2" I was getting
one up. Hopefully they will stay in place.
Thanks for the input

Pictures?

I am thinking of doing it to my Spyder F3-S. Do you have any pictures as to where you put the rubber blocks?

Thanks!

I would be interested in in some follow up to let us know how they work for you. Pictures would be great also.
Thanks much!!!

Sorry about not having Pics. My pea brain and phone does not like talking to my computer.
I placed the rubber spring boosters about the 2nd and 3rd coil spacing up from the bottom straight
across from one another. One up, the scoot only sagged about 1" and felt pretty good. On short trip,
2 up this morning with about 1 1/2" sag, smooth roadway was good, bumpy roadway was little harsh.
Stock and at night, with 2 up the scoot sags enough to cause me to get an occasional hi beam flash from
on coming cars with my lows on.
Still a work in progress.

Yep, same ones as Auto Zone has. Read the attached instructions
that said 45* apart. I will try that spacing and see if it makes any difference.
The one up riding does feel better. if nothing else, the tension on the belt
should be a lot less.
