There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. F3 Trunk Pop - Problem Fixed

Hey All,

In chatting on the F3 Spyderlovers group, it seems there are a lot of riders out there who, like me, had to use two hands to open the Frunk on the F3. On my 2013 ST when you released the trunk lid it would make an audible "pop" sound and then you could walk around to the front and lift the lid. On my F3 releasing the trunk lid required using one hand to pull up on the lid while simultaneously turning the key with the other hand.

Chatting with other f3 owners about half had the two-handed experience and swore that was how it was meant to be.. the other half had the "pop-up" experience. So I did some experimenting and found that the two-handed experience is caused by a poorly installed hood pin that is completely and easily fixable. I put together a video explaining the issue and the fix in the How To section:

https://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/showthread.php?150171-Fixing-the-Trunk-Pop-on-a-Can-Am-Spyder

I'm now a "popper" and so very happy - HATED the two-hand thing to the point where I stopped using the frunk altogether aside from Dairy Queen runs (fun fact, the beverage carrier from Dairy Queen fits EXACTLY in the frunk and will hold up to 4 blizzards perfectly)

Interesting.. looking through the Parts Fiche there IS supposed to be a spring in there.. which is not there in mine and from my experimentation is not strictly needed?

I'm going to order one.. maybe I'll get it sometime in 2023 - will update if/when I do.

I can't imagine what stops the spring from popping out if/when it is installed. But now I'm curious.. and for $4.. I'll experiment some more

Just watched your video. I am putting this at the top of my DIY projects on our Spyders here at home. Very impressed with your video and your presentation.

Thank you
John

Using the two-handed process never really bothered me, but I decided to make this adjustment while doing some cleaning and general "looking around". Your demonstration was great, and now I'm a "popper" too! Thanks!

I'm late to this party ( I don't have an F-3 ) ..... but after watching the video I realized the OP probably never rode or owned a GS or RS ..... back then the answer was to buy a spring and put it on the Post ..... Frunk popped open all the time ..... Mike

Just a quick note concerning this fix. The video of DIY dad mentions at time marker 4:00 about the locking pin will want to slide down when it is loosened. **This is important to be aware of.** My locking pin slid down when I loosened it and I didn’t put it back into place when I was retightening it. When I shut the frunk to check its operation the locking pin was no longer aligned and it was extremely difficult to get open. I thought I might have to remove the entire front Tupperware to open it. I began pulling up on the frunk lid harder than I was comfortable until it finally came open. The latch continued to work but the pin was apparently lodged under the lip of the access hole due to it being out of alignment.

Besides the above issue, which was my fault, the adjustment was made and now when I turn the key to unlatch the frunk I can release the key, walk around to the front of the bike and pull up on the lid.

I do believe there SHOULD be a spring in there (at least based on the parts fiche) - but that they either don't have a retainer clip or anything to hold it in or they just simply don't install it in the first place - Either way - I'm glad this is working for others as well!

Have had my 2022 F3L for about a month after trading in a 2020 RTL. Had no problems with the first one. the 2022 worked fine up to two days ago when it took two hands to open. Found this post and after looking at video, went out and looked at the frunk striker position. Found that it was slightly misaligned according to the video. Adjusted it's position and now works like it should. Noticed the set nut holding the striker was not tight as i thought it should be and thinking that it became misaligned because of the nut not fully tight.

That's very possible - if the locking nuts were loose the vibration could have easily caused the pin to migrate a bit. Glad the video helped!

Just did mine. Works like a champ. You don't have to turn the locking pin much, and make sure the flat side faces the upper edge of the lid.
