F3 Insurance Question....and hello from a new rider :)

Getting my F3-S on Saturday. Soooo excited!

Checking around for insurance, though, I am a bit surprised at the quotes. I am a 40 year old woman, good credit, own my house, have a car with one incident (zero cost) in the last 3 years. For annual coverage with a $500 deductible and suggested coverage amounts (the default amounts), Progressive is quoting me $708 and Geico is quoting $1,796. I kid you not! I called and spoke with a Progressive person and she was astounded by the quote too. I didn't even care to call Geico.

I was talking with a guy friend of mine at work who rides a BMW and he thought my quotes were high too. So he ran a Progressive quote online (for the F3) and his came back at $1250. He's 45 years old.

What is up with these high quotes? Are others paying astronomical rates too?

I am in the Denver area.

To bad you cant get the F3 tonight. There is a big ride tomorrow, over 20 spyders going. I am not sure which dealer your buying from but Fremont Motorsports have the best prices by far, thats where i purchased mine and saved about 3k on my F3. I had 3 different insurance with the Spyder and they all came in at around 350.00 for the year at the same coverage your going for of course I also have auto and home insurance on the same policy, I am also in the Denver area, female and about the same age. Hope to see you out there. Join the Colorado Spyder Riders group!!!!!

Found out the ride is actually this coming Sunday not Saturday. Oh I forgot that 350.00 price is for the F3 and my 125cc scooter combined annually

Tazzel and Sarge707- thank you both for replying. Good to get a sanity check. I will continue the insurance hunt tomorrow while I am stuck at the office....and daydreaming about Saturday. :)

And, Tazzel, I look forward to many rides coming up and will join the group. Thanks!! :)

Surveying rates from all different states may be comparing apples to oranges. Check with an independent agent and see what they can do.

We need our resident insurance guru to chime in on this. Bob??? :dontknow:

Just be glad your not getting a quote from Louisiana! The Roads are bad enough, followed buy # of DUI's then the good ol uninsured & under insured. All top marks & a plague to us all. A large % seem to like the legal system here & have taken up residence.

I wasn't there but I still care! POW /MIA VETS

Insurance

Check out Foremost! My 2015 F3S and a VTX1800C cost $431.00 a year and
that includes towing. My deductible is $1000.00 and that may be part reason
for the good cost!

:agree: Check with a local insurance broker. They have the ability to look at multiple vendors for you. Not only will you save on the Spyder insurance, you might find savings on other items too (i.e. home, car). However, beware of the "cheapest" coverage and read the fine print. You always get what you pay for.

When Bob chimes in, he will also have great advice for you.

Varies by state/location

BUT shopping has always saved me money. First and foremost make sure you are with a high rated company. That said this year I switched to Dairyland...slightly better coverage with a lower deduc was $100 less annual than I had with Safeco the past two years. Had the Dairyland agent check how much insurance will increase if/when I get the '16 F3t....around $75 increase so that means I will be paying around $350 annual (my '14 RTS is $277)....I have both my home and truck with Geico...good credit, no tickets etc etc etc...they wanted over $1200...:yikes:
Dairyland did give me discounts for belonging to an organized motorcycle group (AMA); own home; took ryder safety course; and Spyder was insured before..[I had to send them 'proof' of all that...they took my word, but then requested I send verification.
My local agent who has multiple companies was disappointed when I left them...asked why they don't sell Dairyland. she said they do, but prefer other companies...I said Dland has great ratings what is the issue. Her answer for us, not the best: which I read to say don't pay as much commission. Whatever? With the internet no issue ..

Way too many variables to compare rates. Not only each state, but within the state different counties/towns differ vastly. The age of driver, driving record, amount of coverage/deductible all factors.
Which is why you need to compare apples to apples online, through phone calls or find an agent you trust. I'm lucky because I have Bob.

I was with Progressive for a good while until I found out that the head of the company is very anti 2nd ammendment. I did not want my money being used to help violate my rights

been with State Farm for a year now and very happy

:congrats: on the new F3. Do some shopping around, pick a company that you like, and go for it.

I have had State Farm since 1965. They have my home, car, and two :spyder2::spyder2:

I pay $504 for my 2011 and $564 for the 2014. Both RT's. They pay when I have a claim and have not jacked up the rates either.

you should check Gieco I'm only paying $250 on my 14 RT. You should check all of your insurances every 3 years or so.

Thanks for the information. Based on my experience, I am not happy with Geico. They do not pay off claims very well. I got the shaft in an accident when I got hit by a Geico insured car. State Farm picked up the difference and did not charge me for it. I was not at fault, the Geico car was doing loop the loops on the ice and I got hit while dodging the car and driving up a snow bank.
