F3 in an Autocross

Ran in an Autocross today with 18 cars of various sorts. Kudos to the car club for letting a three-wheeler take a few "exhibition" runs. Fastest time of the day was 21:22 seconds (my son in a slightly tuned Miata - which cost me some pride and $s).

I ran 22:35, so a little over a second off the pace. I had the front preload cranked but Nanny typically would shut me down on the tighter corner and the turn-around. Plan on adding a bigger anti-sway bar and practice, practice, practice.

However, ultimately do want to find an override hack for this type of situation...

Very respectable

I bet that was a good time and as you said nice of the organizers to let you do it. A second off of a spiced up Miata is very respectable!!

Maybe try this?

Looks like fun, if you have an SM6, which it looks like you do, if you check out the little pressure switch that the clutch
engages when you pull the clutch in, if you can work out how to keep that pressure switch compressed nanny thinks that the clutch is engaged and doesnt need to wake up. This was told to me by a friend who knows a lot about the BRP range, I have never done it, but it may be worth a try.
Cheers

Nanny will still activate with the clutch engaged, as I tested today. At this point will continue to practice to drive smoothly and work on the suspension a bit more. It is interesting to find what sets nanny off and what doesn't...she sure doesn't like the front tires to scrub, no matter how slow.

Since this thread came back up I'll share this picture of my son and I on three wheels at an auto cross. It made the national Mini club calendar.

Getting Maximum effort out of your MINI... Priceless! :D
(Is that a "JCW"; or and "S"?)
It's just an "S". I had on '04 and Dave Ramsey talked me into selling it. I regretted it immediately and got this '06 shortly thereafter. I upgraded the brakes, swapped out the pulley and modded this one up pretty good. It was a blast.

I love auto cross. I have a street Corvette that I built to autox and have had a blast.

The Spyder would be very fun if they offered a sport/competition mode. With all the electronics, doesn't seem like it would too difficult for BRP to add this feature. ;)

Hopefully the sport mode is coming based on other threads.

Just ran another autocross today. This time with a BajaRon swaybar and two bros exhaust but still a second + off the pace of the fastest car. 44.7 sec to my 45.9 (4th out of 20). Learning ride around the nanny but the 180 turn-arounds have to be taken pretty slow. Was definitely a hoot though.

That's what I like about the Spyder... breakfast with the motorcycle club then off to the autocross with the cars in the afternoon. It bridges both worlds. :ohyea:

Stalker.jpgRan across this old thread that has been updated. As luck would have it, I rode my F3-S to an SCCA Solo event yesterday in Moultrie, GA to meet some friends that build/race Stalkers here in Florida. Their Stalker AXR has 330 horsepower at the rear wheels and weighs about 1700 pounds. It has 14" racing slicks for back tires and 10" slicks for front tires. Pictured is Krista who is one VERY fast lady and took me through two runs as a passenger yesterday and her husband is inside the car preparing it for some racing. She is mild mannered in life but when you get her behind the wheel, her skill and outright aggression toward the track are completely over the top. What a VERY wild couple of rides going full blast and people's mouths agape. Cinching the 5-point racing harnesses as tight as I could, I was still being somewhat thrown around in the car as we blistered the course. Also did a couple of runs with her husband who is also very accomplished in E Modified but has lately been running just off his wife's pace. One of their sons in his own AXR Stalker was second in the EM class Solo Nationals last year in Lincoln, NE. Was looking very hard at running my F3-S with Ronbar and 2 Up Occasional shock for fun but did not ask anybody. Kudos to YukonF3 for running so well with his trike!

Love this... A CanAm dealer told my brother that the F3 is a 0- 60 bike with no top end speed and that it tops out at 130... I cry BS... Any proof out there so I can prove that the dealer is wrong?

Autocross looks like a lot of fun. I'd like to watch/participate in something like that. Hey, MoGang! Possible activity for SpyderFest?:dontknow:

I would seriously doubt that a F3, or any stock spyder will top the 130 mph mark. That is ashamed, because they are so stable up to 100+ mph.
I would like to take a RS out on a road course though.

My F3 tops out around 135.

OK, I need to see a video of this. I remember seeing a video of a guy on a speedway doing around 122, and they thought it was the best thing since sliced bread. I wasn't impressed, but I could be wrong. But I still would like to see a video.

Apparently, here is a 215kph video of an F3 with a windshield no less? I couldn't see the speed on what appeared to be an Ipad or some kind of device.

215 kph = 133.595 mph

If he didn't have a windscreen, I guess 135 mph seems possible?
