F3 and tall guy's knees!

I'm presently in the market for an F3 at this point and I sat on one and tried the fit kit for optimum positions. One negative that I found was the sculpturing on the body where the sides of knees rest. I have long legs (34"inseam) and my knees hit the sharp angle on the plastic body. I feel that some kind of pad installed there would be a great comfort to many riders, especially me.
Does anyone know of a mod that would help? I foresee a pad fitting into the hollow, but thick enough to keep the rider's knee area from contacting the sharp edge on the body. Even shorter riders would be protecting the finish on their machines.
Ideas?

I would give motorcycle dave a call. He is one of the sponsors here. Besides being an all around good guy his other business is making custom wheelchair pads and seats. Maybe between the 2 of you he can come up with an idea.

Tall also

i'm 6' 2", and with the pegs all the way forward, i have ZERO issues....

I'm almost 6'3" and take a 35" inseam and with the pegs in the number five position, the only time I contact the tank is when I want to for support in corners and then I'm right in the cut-outs. But footboards would probably make you more comfortable. I use the factory pegs but I tend to ride heels down.

i am 6'5" tall with 32" inseam. I am all the way out to hole 5 and have no issues with the stock footpegs. If you put the Lamonstor floor boards on and like them would you please let us know. I like them but the cost is high. I just purchased the F3t and put a trunk on it. Hope you find a solution. I did change my handle bar position to number 3 but I don't know if that makes a difference!

:agree:...and this ius a great idea! :D
Approach the problem from both ends, and neither one of them will need as much adjusting! :2thumbs:

I'm 6'4" with a 34" inseam and I know the body edge with knees that your talking about. I have BRP driver floor boards and when I just sit on the machine I feel my knees touch that edge, but when I'm driving it is absolutely a none issue! I drive very aggressively, so I'm leaning a lot, and there's know problem.

Happened to see a set similar to these on an F3 and the owner explained that he used them to "grip" the area you're referring to. Looks like they would also offer you the protection for your knees. There are many designs/styles depending on what you're looking for - you might have to go to a bike shop to see them in person. Hope this helps.

Bob, I felt exactly the same when I first sat on the F3-L and took it for a test ride, and I have a 38" inleg. It ended up being a non event for me. I have Lamont's RIP boards in position # 5, and while the inside of my knees still contact the body crease, it is definitely not uncomfortable. My F3 came with a couple of clear plastic protectors (actually to protect the body from boot marks), and I put them over the crease just to prevent damaging the paint.

Good answers....

I'm thinking that from the opinions and advice here that my "issue" is not really an issue after all. Actual riding will be different than sitting in a showroom.

I'm trying to identify and conquer as many negatives as possible before making an expensive mistake. So far I'm believing that I will really enjoy this machine.

At this time I have a 2001 Boxster that I don't use nearly enough. But the truth is that it really isn't that much fun to drive as you would think. But I've had it 10 yrs. Time for something new, eh?

......and you are doing exactly the right thing in identifying as many negatives as possible with those who have first hand experience, Bob. The crease may indeed be an issue for you as we are all different sizes and shapes and have different riding styles, but I have never seen anyone mention it as a real issue when riding, so you should be OK. For me, personally, I found the angle of the brake pedal difficult to access on the F3, as my long legs made it hard to bend my ankle up that far. Solution? A pair of Lamont's RIP boards that give you lots of room to move while taking that angle out of the brake pedal......problem solved. You'll find that most of the negatives you find have been addressed by the innovative riders on here. Some of them are quite clever, but I won't name names as they will get swelled heads  :ohyea:
