• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Extra Storage for RT

I recently purchased a Pakit Rak. It has a 25lb weight limit, the bag itself weighs approx 7lbs. I haven't used it yet, but will be using it for my trip to Spyder's in the Redwoods and have high hopes that it will be just what I need in lieu of the trailer. The entire rack can be removed and taken into your hotel room.

Hello, I have been using the pakit rak since about 2004 with only a couple of issues. the weight you mention is for the rak with the special receiver they make for the goldwing. The weight for our hitch is 40lb.

From thier FAQ on the web page:

Q: How much weight will the Pakit Rak / Receiver Carry?
A: The Pakit Rak is designed to carry a maximum of 25 lbs. which includes the weight of the bag. Never exceed the maximum weight limit as stated by your motorcycle manufacturer.

Q: Will the Pakit Rak carry more weight if I use a trailer hitch?
A: Yes: refer to the hitch manufacturer's weight limitations, BUT NEVER exceed 45 lbs which is the Rak maximum weight limitation. Never exceed the maximum weight limit as stated by your motorcycle manufacturer.

One other thing I noticed on my RT, is that when I sit on the bike, the BRP trailer hitch which is mounted to the bike does change positions and raised the Pakit Rak just a bit. Still no problem with lights and license plate.

I have the BRP hitch with a Pakit Rak adaptor made specifically for the Spyder. I'm not sure what everything weighs together, but maybe 10lbs or so, if even that much.

Here is a closer look at the adaptor, which is fastened to the hitch by the ball.

Where did you get the Spyder specific items? All I see is goldwing stuff listed on their website.

Pretty cool setup.

I live about 30 miles from where they're made and rode the Spyder there. They installed the adaptor for me. Give them a call, ask for Jerry - he'll get you what you need. If he's not available Bob or Barbara will take good care of you (they are the owners and avid GW riders).

After a couple of long trips on our RT, my wife and I have decided that we can get along without a trailer. Having said that, we do not have any storage space to spare. What we are looking for is some method to store/secure our helmets, jackets and overpants while we site see, eat lunch, etc. along the way to our next nightly stop. We really don't want to leave the gear laying across the seat, etc and don't want to wear it or carry it with us either. Any ideas out there about extra storage that can be secured to the spyder RT??

All ideas appreciated

At least on the 2012 you can lock your helmets on the helmet attacment under the seat.

We are on a trip now and have the same problem... So I just stopped at a bicycle shop to buy a cable and a padlock... Around the handlebars on a 8 patterns, through the sleeves of the jackets and helmets.... My Nolan does not have an eye lids so it does not go under the seat...

I have purchased the Rak for my RT. I received it yesterday and construction is first rate. I will have to go to a hitch place and have them R&R the ball as I do not have wrenches that size. My concern is that the max tongue rate for the spyder is 40 lbs and I think the weight of this combo uses up most of that. I will certainly help with bulkier items, though.

Why not just pack less stuff and leave room in the already ample storage areas built into the RT. just saying.

I unboxed the Pakit Rak and it looks great. I had to go to the hitch place to have the ball removed and replaced because I didn't have large wrenches or impact tools. They did it free! The assembly went well but I did buy a couple of 5/16 stainless steel bolts and nylock nuts for part of the assembly. They furnished 1/4 20 bolts that fit quite sloppily. The rrack assembly itself attaches to the Hitch adapter with a clovis pin and I replaced it with a pin that I drilled a hole in so I could add a lock there. The bag comes with a nice cover and two keyed locks, one for zippers. The other lock holds the bag to the rack. There is a full length slot in the bottom of the bag and a flat piece of steel slides thru that slot and into the pan base itself and then a lock goes there. see the photos below.
