Extensions on factory muffler

A while back someone mentioned adding extensions on the factory muffler. We are trying it on the SO's SE5 and it seems to sound better and a little quieter.

I only have one question about this little project/mod... which pipe should be shorter or is it which piper should be longer :dontknow:? Ken krb1945

Does your SO know her vacuum cleaner tubes are missing? :roflblack:

She wouldn't let me have those tubes. She said I had to run to the big box hardware in the next town.

Also I don't think these will blow out... I installed a half inch #4 stainless screw in each pipe. Ken krb1945

Looks interesting. Based on the angle of the rear on the stock muffler, I would make the bottom extension a little shorter than the top one. Just to carry that slant all the way through.

Spyderwolf... thanks for the suggestion... I was thinking that very same thing... just needed confirmation that I was thinking right.

Also they are 1.25 inch kitchen sink metal tubes. And just for reference over here on the southeast coast metal tail pieces are getting hard to find.

I agree about the shorter bottom, matching the muffler angle. You might also consider cutting the ends at the same, slight angle. That helps keep the water out (and would look pretty good), but the chromed finish would be compromised at the cuts.

:agree: Good point about cutting the ends at an angle. Don't have a clue as to what you could do about the finish though.

On the slant cuts... I will take some of the silver 2000 degree paint I have and using a Q-tip put it on the actual cut being careful not to put it on the chrome. I believe this might help seal the angle cuts and lessen the bronze showing after the cut. Do you think that will work?

After you make your cuts ,Sand an inch of crome off each end and
with high heat paint ,paint the tips RED. I did that with my VTX.

Red tips and then put a flash suppressor like on a BMG 50... might be an attention getter. I think for the time being I'll keep them chrome. I did file the slant cuts smooth and then with the Q-tip I carefully put the high temp silver on the cut so the bronze doesn't show the gold color.

I shorten the bottom pipe and matched the angle cut to the top pipe. My SO says it looks better that way. Yesteday I ate prime rib for dinner... thanks for that suggestion my friends... next time you are in my area... I'll put one in the "biggreenegg" for 8 to 10 hours and we'll have dinner at 5:30 sharp. Ken krb1945

If I was your wife. I'd divorce you. I swear Spyder owners think of the stupidist looking crap when they sleep. I'd like to see peoples cars on here.

Yep... if you put a CH46, Shinook or huffer tubrine in your spyder BRP and their dealers won't work on it. You have to call GE, Sicorski, Boeing or some other company. Also some of the boat builders in south Florida will work on the engine but they want really big bucks.:D

I would like to see a GL1800 or 1500 in one. And I have a spyder sitting in the garage for that purpose but I seem to be out of gas, energy, all the time now. So I haven't started the process yet.

Justin... I have to ask this... is that your sedan? If it is what do you have in the back seat for a power plant. I recently saw a beetle bug with a turbin in the back. Ken krb1945

I would still like to see a Spyder with a Hyabusa engine in it. Once that was in place you could add a turbo, or go with Nitrous, and have some real fun. Perhaps someday. :D

It won't reduce the heat on the right side... the only thing that will help with the heat is wrap the exhaust headers the 2 inch exhaust wrap and get more air flowing through the engine compartment. Ken krb1945
