• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Extended warranty vendors

Anybody know if there's a Spyderlovers vendor who sells extended warranties? I got 1 year on my new Ryker and I'm looking for something past that.

A quick type of "extended warranty" in the search box at the top of the page will yield more results than you can shake a stick at...but many folks here seem to recommend Sierra Cycles...you can search for them as well.

Failures/problems occur with a "bathtub curve", whereby failures are high right away (like within the 1st few months), and then rapidly drop to very low. The other side of the bathtub, is when stuff actually wear out (i.e. YEARS later), and failures start occurring more rapidly. So once you make one year - should be no real worries! :2thumbs:

I'm still waiting for the other side of the curve of our 1998 Jetta TDI w/269,000 miles! EVERYTHING major is still ORIGINAL. Only the A/C compressor failed at 180,000 miles (we live in FL!)

If you find you have several failures (major expensive ones) that are occurring during the 1st year, as you approach the end of mfg. warranty, you "might" consider an extended warranty. If relatively problem free, a total waste of money, IMHO

When we bought our brand new RV last Fall ($59,999), they tried to coerce us into buying a plethora of extended warranties. IF we took all of them, they would have totaled a whopping $7K!!!. We took ZERO of them. What a total rip-off! If we took it to their dealership, there was a $50 deductible. If we took it to one of their the handful of sister dealerships around the country, there was a $100 deductible. If were were stranded hundreds of mile from any of them, we were SOL!!!

On the other hand, it can take 1 instance to completely pay for an extended warranty, so there ya go.

Yeah, and it take one win putting down $10,000 in Las Vegas to win $10,000,000. If your a gambling person, I guess it seems logical!

Odds of having a problem costing MORE than the cost of insurance is very low. That's HOW they make money! Betting on the 99% of policies never having claims higher than the premium.

So you cannot afford a highly unlikely out-of-pocket expense?

The actuaries have done the math and will not sell you an "insurance/warranty" plan where their long term probability of paying is higher than your cost.

We had one on our 2012 RT, we well exceeded the amount we paid for the warranty with repairs. We also got it on our 2016 F3L. Sometimes it's for peace of mind.
