Exhaust/Muffler with Cat Bypass?

SPYDER Mike

New member
I currently have a 2012 RT SE5, I've been running with SpYder1Attitude Exhaust, sounds Great. I've now put the Cat Bypass on with the SpYder1Attitude Exhaust. Holy :cus: it's LOUD and then some, but she really has some get up and go now!!! Question is to those that have the Cat Bypass, what muffler are you using, other than the stock? Yosh77, Two Brothers... Likes, dislikes, how loud.......ect. Thanks

I cut my cat out and running a Magnaflow...A car muffler. I love the sound. but "realy" not to loud. K-N air filter and powercomander with auto tune to do the remix of air and fuel.

Thanks for the info. Farmboy. I also have the K&N filter but no power comander, The ECU or whatever it's called seemed to be able to adjust itself to the change.

I have the YOSH w/bypass & the sound is great (I posted a video after installation…)

I still get a "shift pop" occasionally, but it remains quiet enough to use the radio/iPod, and the volume behind the bike is throaty, without being irritating to others.

BTW, I have a BEST warranty till 2015, and was told that the use of a aftermarket ECU (Power Commander) will void the warranty…..

Thanks Dragonrider,

Like the way that sounds, just right:yes:. I just ordered the YOSH. Thanks again for the Video.

I have the cat bypass and run the stock RT muffler. I like the looks of it over the after market mufflers. Not real loud and it sounds much better than with the cat installed.

That is somewhat true. some dealers just will sale you out just to get out of working on a spyder. We have a dealer that will say "because of the powercomander, that's why the paint it peeling off your finders and warranty will not cover it."

It would be really great if we had some videos that would allow us all to hear and copare the sounds...
"Not too loud"... :dontknow:

I went to the muffler shop and got a 5 foot stick of pipe for 5 bucks and built my own. Took me 10 min. to lay it out and 5 min to weld it up. But I have a cutoff saw and welder's...

so if i drive out to your place will you help me out if buy the beer/bbq? its only 300mi to donaldson thats 2 tanks of fuel about 5hrs drive time.

YOSH w/bypass

So I'm a new owner and technologically :hun: wrench impaired ... I purchased a Spyder ST Limited a month ago and am have a huge problem with left side heat. I was told the Cat Converter is the problem - too much heat. I am trying to learn all I can about how to alleviate my problem - this YOSH w/bypass? Can you tell me where to get one? My husband can install it (he IS a wrench but has never worked on a Spyder. Does it keep your bike cooler? Also, what is an ECU and what does it do? Do I need one? Thanks so much for your time ... :helpsmilie:

Me too, for an hour

I bought a slightly used SpyderAttitude muffler and added it about 9 AM this morning. The CAT is gone, but don't tell anyone. I let it idle for 5 minutes and 1 second, left it all by itself for about 15 minutes with the key 2 miles away. Hopped on for a test ride, already knew it would be at least a little loud, even with the rear whatchamacallum adapter thing on the muffler. 12 miles interstate, part State road, part nice curvy hilly back roads for 30 miles. It was the loudest thing I've ever heard without an amplifier. Well, maybe a 155 is louder for a microsecond. Ran great, plenty of additional pep, backfired some with sudden throttle reduction, but who noticed? It's now in the box it came in and ready for the next owner. Great product, but if it's loud for old, deaf me, every donut eater in N GA will be waiting to give me the next ticket. I even took the long way home, around two fire stations where they all congregate and wait for guys like me driving by like a B-52. So, it'll go on the For Sale forum soon. I have no regrets, except I wish it were just a little quieter so I could keep it on the Spyder. While doing an errand this afternoon, a County Police car came by me with siren screaming and lights going nuts. He was probably doin 90 or more on a 2 lane state road, and I was at 60, but if I still had that muffler on, he would have probably called in and told the dispatcher he was going to ticket this old guy who dooesn't know his muffler fell off, get somepne else on his call. He was really humpin.
Installation was a breeze and it sounded great at idle - pretty loud then too.
Guess I'll stick with the original muffler - sound is fine, but could stand to be a tad louder. Don't think so, not today anyway.
Lots cooler on the right side too, really noticeable.

what all is involved in removing the cat from the rt? i'm running a yosh77 on my 2011rts has a nice sound not overwhelming.but me being a little younger then some id like a lounder rumble.so if i remove the cat how will i attach the yosh back on?

TOO LOUD

TOO LOUD...?
maybe i have a cure for you RT guys/gals...
although i have the RS, i'm certain that the results would be the same...
i openned my muffler up, removed the CAT and installed a CHERRY BOMB glass pack muffler (SUMMIT RACING, $32), the results are amazing... GREAT TONE during excelleration, but when cruising down the highway, the tone moderates to an acceptable level...
i've sectioned a bunch of RT & RS muffler to know this also can be done to the RT's, although i personally haven't converted an RT with the CHERRY BOMB...
i also removed 9" from the length and about 5 lbs of weight... i've shortened a number of RT units, while gutting them, and the tone improved, but the CAT really holds down the tone... if anyone needs more info, i'd be happy to help...
take a look:
