Well, as I posted earlier, I had a nice 1.5 hour ride in the tremendous downpour today...nice lightning too!
This was the first time I had tried my new 3" risers...I have to say that it's quite a different feel...in a very good way...
I'm so used to leaning into the bike a little that I still found myself leaning in...this basically made me shrug my shoulders a bit, even though I didn't need to....maybe this was because I was getting pounded by rain and was soaked to the bone?
Anyway, the new hand position took all of about 10 seconds to get used to. I like how they can be rotated a little to find optimal positioning. I also LOVE the fact that I can keep using my steering lock...this is a must for me as it seems like I'm always parking on hills and turning the wheel into the curb and locking is quite nice...
I had total control of the bike and my hands did not tire...I think the risers help to buffer some of the vibration (as do really wet and heavy gloves) as well...this is a big plus!
I'm looking forward to my first 'relaxed' ride with the new risers. I can tell that pulling the handlebars up 3" makes a difference. I wasn't able to challenge them in tight turns as I would've been roadkill if I did...I will say that highway curves in heavy rain were easier...hard to describe but I felt like I had more control of the bike...could lean a little and drop my feet hard into the pegs.
So far, so good. I now know why everyone who has them, loves them. Like all of ESI's products, the handlebar risers are a great modification...I might eventually rotate them a bit more toward my body, but I don't want to reduce the ability of my right wrist to use the throttle. Do most people here just raise them up from the stock position or rotate them towards (or away)?
Thank you Evan for such a great product. Oh, BTW, I would not have been able to ride home today without all the LED lights...it was so dark, rainy, and dangerous, that had I not had your LEDs all over my bike, I would've waited for the rain to end. Visibility was not an issue with my bike...thank you...
