• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Error Code P081B - Information and Advice needed

A Friend of mine has asked the following question

He was out on the bike and got up and engine fault light, but no limp mode
He Drove home, with no issues, checked error code and got up P081B, followed the manual and checked he per start relay, pins 85/86" and got 170 ohms, which is double what is recommended in the manual

Have you any ideas, the manual also listed fuses to check and measure resistance at different point, but I don't know where these points are ?

As the relay resistance is out of manual recommendations, do you think that is the issue.
The bike was just serviced by 158, and I don't want to go back there at 250 miles round trip
Many thanks, in anticipation.
Peter

Anyone have any suggestions I can pass on to him

Thanks

Sorry, my shop manual is for the RS 2008-2010. Only goes as low as P099. Hopefully an RT owner chimes in soon.

Po81b

The book say's po81b is pre-starting relay short circuit to V plus. Possible cause: Blown fuse, damaged or disconnected relay, damaged circuit wires, damaged connectors or ECM output pins, damaged headlamp overrun switch.
I would go for the easy stuff first. There have been a lot of cases where relays under the fuse/ relay box have come loose, while you there check fuses.
hope this helps. Good luck

[hi Steve, thanks for the info, I got the same from the manual, but when I checked the resistance across the per start relay terminals 85/86, I got 170 ohms, and the manual says it should be between 80-90, so my question is, is the relay only fit for the trash, I checked the fuses, assuming the bottom right in the relay box feeds the per start relay, and it was OK.
The manual talks about checking resistance at specific point, but doesn't point to where these are on the bike you comments /suggestions would be appreciated thanks Peter
