Engine vibrations...

Kratos

Ultimate Spyderlover
I really don't know how to explain this, and it could just be me being paranoid or something, but it feels like I can feel the engine vibrating a lot more than when I first got the spyder. The entire bike seems to vibrate as if I could feel each piston stroke. I can feel it in my hands, feet, and butt. Engine and clutch just feel "rough", and that's really the best way I can describe it. No rpm or speed changes the feeling. In fact, I feel the rough vibrations of the engine even while sitting still at a red light.

I'm wondering if this is a belt issue, tune issue, hardware issue......I have no clue.....:dontknow:......or was it this way the whole time, and I'm just now paying attention to it?

Don't get me wrong, the bike runs pretty good, just not a smooth feeling.

I have no idea what the source is with your Spyder. It may even be in your head, but a common source with other vehicles is rubber motor mount settling and wear. If the engine contacts the frame or puts excessive pressure on the mounting points, the vibration can be increase dramatically. It sneaks up on you, too, since the change is gradual. I'd check the motor and motor bracket clearance.

Glad you brought this up, I am getting the same thing from my 08 GS 19,000 mi..and like Scotty said it just kind of crept up on me. I really noticed it after buying the 2011 RSS .That runs as smooth as silk compared to the GS so now I really can tell how much the GS shakes....And this is not moving,, just revving it.......So now I have to figure out where all the attachment points are.......Mike

Keep in mind that there can be other causes. As the tires wear, vibration can increase. You may have noticed how much smoother things are after you replace a tire or tires. Even a tiny bit of degris or tar accumutated on the rear sprocket can cause vibration. I recently had a similar, increasing vibration. Close inspection of the rear sprocket showedtiny bits of tar and dirt flattened on top of several sprocket teeth. Between a new rear tire and cleaning the sprocket, the vibration disappeared. Other culprits...loose motor mount bolts, a stone imbedded in the sprocket or belt, or a damaged belt. Put on your detective hats and get looking things over closely.

Thanks guys. Sounds like there may be something to this. I'm gonna bring it up to my dealer next time I go which may be tomorrow.

What if it's a belt issue?......On the front sprocket, my belt is very close to the outside flange. Not rubbing but very close. There is alot of room between it and the inside flange. (Dealer told me that only the rear alignment matters and you can't control where it sits on the front, so maybe that's not an issue).
Also I notice she is not as smooth to roll around (also may be in my head), and there is an occasional squeal in the rear (that's not in my head, lol). I have taken the rear wheel off twice for my Knight Rider project, and I maybe threw something off...???
I called dealership, they said it would be 2 weeks before they could get to it. I can't be without my baby that long.

I couldn't get close enough to get a good shot of the front. This is the best that I could do...

Your belt looks fine as to position. The squeal is a well-known issue. BRP has a goofy service bulletin "fix" for that, SB 2012-4 I believe.
