• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Engine Replacement

As some of you know on my way home from Spyderfest my engine seized up. BRP had me towed but the dealer was closed so the tow truck dropped it off at a motel with me. I had to have it towed the next morning at a cost of $96. BRP only pays one tow. At the dealership they worked on it most of the day. Their findings the engine is seized at a cost of over $350. Then $660 for a U Haul to get it home. Today I got the complete verdict. The lower case is cracked and the clutch is destroyed. BRP says it doesn't have any 998 engines in stock. I thought the 998 is still being used in the RS and ST models? The dealer has to order all of the parts he will need to rebuild the engine. They figure they should have the order complete by Monday. A week for BRP to ship the parts and a week for assembly. What are the chances of BRP having all the parts? Doesn't look very promising for a summer of riding. Depression is already setting in bad. I'll keep everyone updated as I fing out.:gaah:

Fingers Crossed

Keeping my fingers crossed for your spyder to be back on the road soon.:bowdown::bowdown:

Upgrade time????

Maybe time to upgrade to a newer model?? You should see what they will give you for trade. Hope you make out without anymore headaches.

DEAD ENGINE

VERY, VERY, Sorry to hear this Bad news.......I have a feeling that BRP is not building a stock of 998 engines or parts because ...imho....there isn't a big future for them in the coming BRP line-up.....Also imho, if it's a WARRANTY failure ...then BRP should cover ALL your costs....it was there PRODUCT that FAILED........Good Luck, ....Mike

Keep us posted. What happened to you is not a common thing. Interesting about the lack of 998 engines.:popcorn::popcorn:

Are you the gentleman that dropped off your Spyder on a Monday at Reynold's that I was there thinking I needed a tire? I was the owner of the blue 2013 RT-s. Sorry to hear this about yours even if that was not you. Hope all goes well and right.:gaah::pray:

But you're all correct: the lack of available 998s, does tend to make one wonder... :dontknow:

Most manufacturers don't stock complete engines because they seldom need a complete engine. I've run into this on ATV's also and have had to build a motor from the parts bin. Hope they have the pieces and get you on the road soon. I have no idea if a good low miles engine would be available somewhere.

They should still have almost a Month left, for their 2016 model year production run... They should have a supply of pieces laying around somewhere. :dontknow:

Since the 998 was still in production....you would think they would have some. I thought there was some federal regulation that each and every item that goes into any production vehicle had to have 10 years of spare parts available. Hummmm....

Thanks it was me. The long wait begins.

Wow sorry to hear & hope is covered by warrantee. If not good excuse to upgrade & or find cheep used 998 model & engine

I wasn't there but I still care! POW /MIA VETS

Stock.....

slim to none that they will have all the parts you need. Everyone is different but we changed GSXR 750 engines when the line boring was wrong and pistons were hitting the heads by pulling them from a bike in stock. Repaced it when the new one came in. Sorry to hear this is not going well...:banghead::banghead:

If you are under warranty, and they are paying let them fix it.

If not, there are a bunch of used engines on EBay for reasonable money.

Good luck with hope and hope you get her back soon. I agree about the 998 there should be some unless they are going away? Can't imagine that They still use them....
