Elka stage 2 shocks 2014 RT

Spyder 10

New member
I installed elka shocks on my 2014 RT. What a difference in the ride. The handling is 100 times better. I hit my first twisty and over corrected because I wasn't used to the handling. I recovered OK but what a difference. It feels like a different bike and the handling is amazing. Thank you elka.

One of the best things Ive done to my Spyder was adding the Elka's. I got the stage 1 though and saved some money. Same shock, the only difference is that I can not adjust them but dont need to. I got them at last years Spyderfest and they did not have any stage 2's for my ST. They set them up the first time to the owner and you dont need to mess with them anyway. I was bottoming out nearly on every ride before, I haven't bottomed out since.

Fox Shox Podiums on our RTS. As the O P described the improved handling, ours is very well planted, noticably firmer ride than stock.

Be forwarned though, others reading this, the firmer ride is not for everyone.

My ST Limited came standard with Fox Podium shocks. I have them for sale for anyone that wants them. I was going to sell them to someoneone on this forum and she had a wreck while I was in the process of doing the packing. Still have them.

Cool the original post got aftermarket Elkas for his RT.

Not sure but would expect the stock ST shocks, even though they are made by Fox, to be valved and sprung accordingly for a showroom machine.

On the 2014 and newer RT series, the BRP accessory Fox Shox are a very noticable difference for riders that prefer a performance setup over the original equipment Sachs front shocks. The Sachs shocks are sprung softer and are valved lighter.

Have people installed their own Elka Shocks? Is it very difficult? Interested....thought I might buy them and do it myself. Thanks!

Elka shocks

I installed them myself. A little difficult getting the wrench in to get to old ones off. You will need a short 15 mm wrench. To put the new ones on, it was fairly easy.

I installed the front Elka stage 2 shocks on my 2016 RT, and it was about a one hour job for me and I am mechanically challenged. You do need a lift so you can take pressure off the suspension to remove the bolts that hold the shocks. There are just two bolts per side easy peasy! I have not done the rear shock but plan to have that done for me at a later date, not because I don't like the ride of the stock rear shock, but I am a little anal! You need to have the shocks set for your weight and riding style and if you carry a passenger, then just bolt them on when you get them. They will raise your front end almost an inch and the handling is noticeable improved! Good luck! Jim

Any change to the vehicles ride height when loaded requires realignment of the front end.

I measured the before and after height changes when I installed Fox Shox, and also measured the before and after wheel alignment. The Fox Shox raised the front 10mm or about 3/8", the wheel alignment went from accurate to off by a factor of three times incorrect.

I traded my 2011 RT LTD in for a 2015 RT LTD. With the pre-loads on the 2011, I was able to get good cornering out of the ride. For the 2015, the pre-load was not available on the stock shocks and the handling, IMHO, is horrible. The front would dip and I would continuously have to correct throughout the corners. That is without pushing the bike to anywhere near what I would consider a limit. There literature does state the new suspension is better, but for me, it was much worse than what I had on the 2011. For me, the Elkas were money well spent.

Again, just my $0.02 worth

I did not measure before and after, but from the looks of the front end (memory alone) I do think it is setting a bit higher.

I put them on my 2014 RT about a year or so ago and I also think this is a vast improvement in the handling and ride quality. Well worth the money IMO.
