Elka Shocks

I'm thinking it is time to buy a newer RT. My current bike has Elka front shocks but they are now about 7 years old. Is it worth moving the shocks to the newer bike or let them go because of their age? They have 31K miles on them.

Asking....Are Elka shocks rebuildable? If they are, then have it done if you have doubts about their performance. As Beaudog sez, If they aren't leaking.....

Let me flip the coin here and say 7 year old shocks off a 2013 and if I were to get a 2020 I think I would let them stay on the 2013. Now if I was just moving up and year or two and getting a good buy on a newer model Spyder (say 2016) then maybe I would think about rebuilding them and moving them to the newer bike if they would even fit.

If your selling the bike privately it would make it a more attractive proposition to your buyer if they remained.
Would you be happy with older shocks than your newer bike? I wouldn't, kind of defeats the purpose of updating, but everyone's got different reasons.

FWIW, Elka recommends rebuilding their shocks at about 70,000 miles.

Let me say that the handling of the 2020 RTL is excellent as supplied with the OEM components.
Any improvements you add will make the handling even MORE excellent.
If your ELKA shocks are rebuildable go ahead and rebuild them and switch them over
Having said that, the RonBar will get you the biggest bang for the buck.

Just my opinion, I could be wrong.

Keep the shocks, and get them freshened up with new oil and nitrogen. I use Ingram Motorsports for all my shock maintenance and tuning.

Thanks for everyone's insights. It sounds like I should have them checked out for refurbishing before I give them away.
