• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Electrical System Funkyness?

I may be opening myself up for a flood here but I have to ask. Has anyone on the forums had electrical issues on the Spyder RT-S?

I took mine in on Wednesday for an oil change and to get my parking break sensor and pulley replaced. Was fine when I dropped it off.
Today I call in to see when I can get it back and the dealer says the Spyder was :yikes:freaking out:yikes:. Gauges pegged, lights flashing and unresponsive to B.U.D.S. They tried checking, disconnecting and reconnecting the battery. They said they had never seen anything like it before and were talking to BRP for help. Nothing they do has been any help.

The bike has been very good since the throttle body issue was fixed. I just got back from a nearly 2000 mile round trip to southern GA and had NO issues.

Love my spyder, hate this feeling...AAARGH! I just want it back so I can go ride.

Time to do a voltage test and a load test on the battery, and check that the relays/fuses are all good and well seated.

Completely Stock

I have made no electrical mods and as I said it was fine when I dropped it off.

Still in the shop, dealer has been in contact with BRP. So far nothing has helped. I think I will go for a visit when the shop opens on Tuesday.

yeah big can of worms , trouble shooting SUCKS . I wonder if some where in the process of doing the maintence they screwed up a ground somewhere. IF i had diagrams etc I may be able to help . I was told one day a LONG time ago that a bad ground can cause 90% of problems . I would say its more like 70 to 80% but ha. I hope they figure it out. WHen they do let us know what the issue was PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE

Hope it gets fixed soon!

Definitely will post cause, if identified, and the solution when it is fixed. :chat: At this point I don't even know exactly what it is doing :dontknow: just what I said in my original post.

Ditto on the ground connection. Not on my spyder but on the 58 vette. Lots of plastic and multiple ground connections for all electrical mounted in or on plastic (fiberglass). I live in Minnesota and although I do not drive it in the winter salt and slush the previous owner did. I have had electrical problems crop up the last 3 years. I am now replacing the wiring harness which means all new ground connections. So far the improvement has been great. Headlights do not dim or burn out, heater motor runs strong but the biggest improvement has been the dash gauges and the radio. No static and the gauges are stable, no flickering. This makes me think that a ground wire was missed by the tech.

If you have an RT, send me a PM with an email address and I'll send you a high res jpg of the schematic.

Found the problem, hopefully getting fixed!

OK, Got an update from the dealer today.

The throttle body is stuck shut and had a blown throttle body fuse. Dealer theory is the fuse blew because of the throttle body being locked shut. Dunno, just glad they found it.

It is now responding to B.U.D.S. so that is a step in the right direction.

The throttle body was already replaced just before the warranty campaign but according to the dealer the part number installed on my unit has been replaced already by a newer part number. They are ordering the part and hopefully should have it back by Friday.

Will reply back when I get it back.
