• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Electric Trunk Release

I have been reading the different threads about the Electric Trunk Release mod. http://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12808&highlight=trunk+release I find it very irritating to have to turn the engine off in order to open the trunk after you have started it up.

I was wondering if anyone has tried to add a switch to the existing wireing that comes from the key switch. It seems to me if you could find the correct circuit you could add a switch that would work the same as the key swich. Then you wouldn't need to add another solenoid. Has anyone tried this?

The existing key switch is a manual release of the trunk locking mechinism, as you push down and turn the key.
I used a solenoid from a junk cars, door opener. I also ran another cable from the latch, to behind my removable oil panel cover, for an emergency release, in case my key would be locked in the trunk by being accidently in my jacket pocket.

John - the guy with Angelina Jolie painted topless on his trunk hood has done that.

He used a momentary push switch up on the skull of the Spyder and used a solenoid to pull the release.

He also had the emergency release cable setup too... I'll try to find a link.

As has been said, the trunk release and the seat release on the RS are mechanical. They are cable operated by pushing in the key and turning, which then pulls the appropriate cable. If you want an electric release, you will have to add a solenoid and the appropriate switch and wiring to operate the solenoid. There is no easy way.

:popcorn:Thinking of adding a cable release myself.

Thanks!! I assumed that the release was electrical because it was activated by the key switch. That explains why the posts with the solenoid. Thanks again for the info.

Electric trunk release

I have had my bike 3 wks, and the e release does not work. It is hard enough trying to get it to release with just the key. The dealer is telling me that it is covered under warrenty, and he needs to hear from BRP. In addition, I have problems opening seat just to get gas, I am afraid to take the bike out, it is so iffy getting to the gas tank. Also, the gas gauge bounces all over the place, I don't know how much gas I have. I love this bike, but I am wondering, did I make a big buck mistake buying it? Are all of us 2010 RTS buyers, the test riders for BRP?:spyder2:

The trunk e-release only works when the engine is running. If it doesn't work then, lubrication and proper latch adjustment may help. Lubrication of the seat latch plates and pin also are a big help with that cable release. Night and day difference after I lubed mine. Pushing down hard, or smacking the right front corner of the seat, with the palm of your hand while turning the key, will usually release even the most stubborn seat. The latch pin should be adjusted if this is necessary. Hard to lube the cables, but that would also help. It is incredible that the dealer has to ask for permission to make simple adjustments and throw some silicone (dielectric) grease on the latch plates and pins. Doing this stuff should be part of the standard setup procedure.
