• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

ECM

Started my spyder last week and got check engine light, delaer hooked it up to BUDS, said the rear cylinder is not firing bucaue the ECM is not sending the signal.Has anyone had to have their ECM replaced? How long did it take to get the part in and what is the warranty on ECM?

They replaced the one on my RTS several weeks ago. Not sure how long it took to get it, but they were in short supply for a while. The RS ECM is different...at least for the programming. Warranty should be the same as any other non-excluded Spyder component...unless it is considered to be part of the emissions system, which I believe requires a five year warranty under US law.

Did they try to reflash your ECM before giving up?

EMC

I have a 08 Gs my ECM gave up the ghost last week, 13 thousand miles, Two + years= The famous BRP code words= On back order NO estimated time of arrival.:yikes: Out of warranty but the dealer got them to agree to pay for the part [when it comes in] I'll have to pay for the labor, that's OK by me that's fair enough. While I'm waiting I'm going to buy another [not brp] bike so i have something to ride. And I'll keep both, so I'll never have only one bike in my garage again. First time in 35 years i don't have a bike of my own to ride.

My ECM crashed in March 09 - 6K on the spyder at the time. Took 14 days to get mine back. Hardest part is waiting for the parts to come from Canada - customs and such.
Need a parts warehouse in the US.

Same thing here..sent to dealer last week, no word yet..of course..they are busy right now so have doubts it has even been looked at. Vinny just had the same problem and took 6 weeks to get fixed. ECM was bad and expect the same on mine. They make the dealer go through hoops to determine if the ECM is really bad or the battery or even the coil.

Thnks for your replies, they called me today and said that after additional testing and talking to BRP, it was determined that it is a bad ignition coil, and the ECM is OK, now I have to wait for the part

Please post the final results. Thanks

Just finally heard back from the dealer. Bad ECM on SM 08. Part on order but on back order with no ETA. So know I wait.

am I the only :spyder2: Owner that thinks this should be a "recall" issue ... so many others have had the same issues and problems that it warrants a "recall" IMO

:agree:But they don't have the parts in stock, I've been waiting two weeks now! It's beginning look like i may not have my Spyder for the whole month of July.

The dealer installed ignition coil and the problem is still there, now it's time to replace ECM, when will that happen??? Saw the new Honda VFR 1200f yesterday with auto transmission. That is a one cool bike!!!. Might consider going with that or a harley trike if the Spyder continues to misbehave

My dealer got it right the first time, even though the code pointed to a bad coil also:

There is another thread out there that spells out a plan by the Lamonster to do something along these lines. Perhaps if he sees this he will point you in the right direction. It appears possible to do this, however, it is a major project.
