Easy Risers vs Mirror Extensions

Newbie here (to modifying bike). I'm looking at purchasing the KewlMetal mirror extensions because they ARE on sale for $79 and I do see my knuckles when I ride. Plus the mirrors are constantly coming loose and need to be tightened often. :yikes: However, I don't have any risers at the moment as my bike has mostly stock items. :D

Two sets of questions:

1. Would I need to purchase the risers right away or could I wait a bit? And then when I do purchase the risers, What would you recommend? I'm 5'4"..so would I need the 1", 2", 3", 4"? :dontknow:

2. I have a friend who does have the risers and needs to get the extensions. Is KewlMetal a good brand to get? Again, she wants to purchase for the sale and we were going to combine the order to save on individual shipping costs. :2thumbs:

Thanks in advance. :chat:

I know of no reason you would need to put risers on right away. Take your time and look at the different makes and models, cause there are different ways to go about "rising." in my case I wanted to bring the handlebars back, down and in. Kewelmetal is the type I chose and am very satisfied with them. I'm 5-8 and I bought the 5" version, I think.

As with any product, some will like it; some won't. It's your choice and youve made it clear price is important so go with the Kewl metal brand. I've had outstading success. Period

Having seen worked with both the Kewmetal and the ESI mirror extensions firsthand, I would spend an extra $50 to get the ESI extensions. They are a lot more refined to the fit of the Spyder. The Kewlmetal extensions were the first ones on the market and were great at the time but they are just a block of aluminum machined to fit the stock holes and don't follow the curves and angles in the stock mirror arms and mounts like the ESI extensions do. I also think that the Kewlmetal extensions don't have the three small positioning notches cut in them that help hold the mirrors in position. They had a tendency to move forwards and back easily unless you really reefed on the mounting screw.

I agree with you...I think KM made another, newer set...it's black but it does not hold the lines of the bike like the ESI does...it allows for more movement, but I don't see the need for this. The ESIs bring up out and you can rotate them as needed...plus, as we've said, they really match the bike nicely...the KM simply look out of place...

I have the easy risers and they Do make your hands more prevalent in your mirror, All I did was go to auto zone and buy a small adhesive wide angle mirror and placed it in the upper inside corner of the mirror where my hand would show up otherwise. I now can see fine in the other lane.:doorag:

Not lengthened, as mine are plenty long. If you buy the "up and out" variety you will either have to disengage both wires from the connectors that plug in behind the dash ... or cut and splice them back together. As I understand it, with the KM, you don't have to do either.

Mirror extenders were the first accesories we installed on the 2008 and 2009 Spyders. Also ended up with 4" risers on both. Makes for a nicer upright position ride (if you are into that) and better visibility with the mirrors (IMO). Prior to the extenders--we were getting really good knuckle views.
