Easy Cure For Deceleration Exhaust Pop. No Parts Needed

Crisis

New member
Hi,
I recently installed HMF Exhaust (no controller) on my 2008 GS SE. Compared to the stock exhaust, I was experiencing popping consistently when I down shifted and/or decelerated. I have new Honda manifold gaskets.

Google to the rescue! On a HD forum a member stated " to eliminate exhaust pop when decelerating, release the throttle immediately when decelerating, no gas".

Went out and tested tonight and pop is gone, once in a while I here a faint crackle, but rarely. It works!!

Ahhh...!!

tricks of the trade. I can control the popping with the throttle and clutch..but how well do the semi autos do..?? :dontknow:

You simply have to release the throttle completely , let go of it, when decelerating or down shifting

:agree: I once had the opportunity to ride a Hindle-equipped GS. It crackled under decoration, and sounded righteous!! :2thumbs:

(Thanks, Jim!)

Holy Crap!! Thanks for this. Since I'm new to riding/ryding I've been wondering what the popping was and whether it was mechanical or if I was doing something wrong.

Apparently, it was rider error, because now that I think of it, I rarely release the throttle while decelerating unless coming to a complete stop. Now I know better.

By the way Chupaca, this is on a semi-auto (2009 GS SE5).

If you have the stock exhaust it should not pop. You may need to replace the Y exhaust gaskets. If you do, use the Honda gaskets. There are many posts about changing them.

I have JT's intake and once I added the cat bypass mine started popping... freed the air up a bit too much I guess. I will have to try the throttle trick.
