• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

ear-end-crash analysis

I think I was not the first one - where a car couldn't brake fast enough and crashed into the back of my Spyder! If I had seen him in the mirrors, I think that I would have been able to stay in my seat - but I didn't so I was sent flying back and the plastic of the rear speaker (on my RT) hurt some of my back ribs (I was still on the Spyder) :gaah:
If I had worn my summer jacket, which has a back-protector, that would have helped!! I will do that in the future!
But I bought my first GS three years ago - because of the security what they offered :2thumbs: - right decision!!
For sure I would have kissed the street yesterday if I was on my old BMW-RS which still stands on the side of my Spyder
I don't know if they analyse accidents - in my case it would have helped if the peak of the rear speakers were behind foam or something.
I was able to drive her home - but after two hours a friend took me to the hospital - they said I will feel that pain in the next few weeks - I hope my Spyder is also fit then.
(I couldn't sleep tonight - wife said I'm "snivelling")!

Would a Backrest Offer Help?

Chris,

Do you think having a back rest, like the Corbin seat has, would have helped keep you safe?

You being thrown "backwards" is the result of the force pushing you "forward" (Newton's 3rd Law of Motion I believe). So it just seems to make sense that if there was a backstop that you would have been thrown into it and stopped, right? Just want your input seeing how you went thru it.

think you are right - that would have helped - but don`t know if you would get troubles with your neck than (wrote another driver here) ..
i think also the passenger wouldn`t have much troubles on the RT ..

My Spyder rs was rear ended over amonth ago. The impact was absorbed in the fender and BRP saddle bags. I have a drivers backrest and other then some soreness from neck whip lass I was ok. I also was wearing a mesh jacket with full armour.

Sorry to hear about being "rear ended". Let's hope that the pain doesn't last for too long. It sounds like you were lucky to be on 3 wheels, rather tgan 2. Get well soon!

(could`nt sleep this night - wife said i`m "snivelling")
Just tell her you are whining about losing the use of your Spyder for a while...then maybe she'll understand. :roflblack:

I hope there is no serious damage to your body, and that you are feeling better and sleeping better real soon.

Any news as to why the crash happened? Like was it simple driver distraction, fascination with the seeing your bike? Thats what I'm afraid of.

two young boys with a tuned 3er BMW behind me - the traffic light switched to "RED" and i stopped - seemes they tried to pass - driving around 30mls/hour - didn`t hear any brakes or so - next second i found me standing in the middle of the crossroad .. so drove my spy to the side
lot of people there - a policeman wrote down all the facts .. didn`t feel to be hurted - asked one of the guys (he knew me) if he could bring me home all the parts lying around on the street - than drove home with the damaged spy (had a shock) ..still running perfect no problems ..but don`t ask what my wife said -
after 2 hours found out that i cannot bend-down and a friend drove me in the hospital (hate to be there) - but only a problem with some ribs - did`nt know how painful that can be (also if im laughing) 4-8weeks ??
today they `will bring it in the garage - lets see if its possible to repair (frame-damaged ?) or if i get a new one..
thanks god - seemes i always have a lot of angels around me ..

Thanks for the update Chris. A sore back will take several weeks to heal, before you'll be back to normal. Hope all goes well for you.
