Firefly, let us know how it works on the XR1R. I just got mine (not c.f.) but one of the reasons for buying was the huge eye port. This looks like you would see the perimeter of it. Possibly being a little distracting. By the way, I got helmet from webbikeworld.com for a great deal and I received it the next day.
Sorry guys if my original posts seemed like an endorsement of this product. I was waiting for my helmet - and had the E-tint AX9 for a day to play with-- and it worked well-- but realize I had yet to mount it to my helmet--- just tested it outside on it's own, etc..
Now that I've installed and ridden with this unit--- I'm sorry to say that I would NOT recommend getting one!
Here are the cons--- the major one I just found out TONIGHT!
1. Installation is tricky. The bend of the shield is problematic for the AX9 version because it has the battery inside the shield-- and it doesn't bend quite as well as it should--- so it left 'bubbles' or odd 'bends' in the E-tint visor. If you look at the photos close you might see the 'bends' I'm talking about.
NOTE: I called the company and talked to a gentleman named Roy and he said I can send him my shield and the unit back (with the template in place where I want it mounted) and he would mount it for me and ship it back. He also said that if the bend was too tight to work well with the AX9 that he would install a new MX8 for me at no charge.
So they get an A+ on customer service-- even though I have yet to send it back.
2. The AX9 battery area inside the shield blocks my instrument panel--grrrr -- just can't see down enough without moving head-- not good. The MX8 would not have as much blockage and thus would be better.
4. The look of the unit from the outside of the helmet is ugly-- mainly due to the gray 3M adhesive 'gasket' used - sticks out like a sore thumb. Black would have been MUCH better.
5. The unit isn't big enough---especially for my NEXX XR1R helmet which has a HUGH eye port. Just feels 'boxed in' by it.
6. When on, the dark just isn't dark enough--- period. Most dark shields are 50-70% -- this thing is barely 20%.
7. If your shield allows multiple-positions for letting air in during hot weather - this will cause issues as you initially aline the the E-tint when the helmet is 100% CLOSED. I often open my shield in the summer maybe 2-3 notches ---- just can't do that with this as the battery and frame are right in your vision line.
8. At night it's NOT totally clear--- a little dim or 'dull'. It 'dulls' the look of things at night compared to looking through just the shield. I was able to test this by looking through the E-tint and then looking through the areas without it.
And the MOST important problem I found with this unit:
9. When using at night--- EVERY headlight coming at you has a large nasty 'rainbow' halo around it ! Makes it just HORRIBLE to ride at night--- and dangerous in my opinion!
So if you want something that is cool for DAYTIME/Dawn/Dusk use -- this might work okay to give you a bit of tint--- but if you're expecting to use this around the clock and never change your shield out no matter how light or dark out--- this just ain't gonna cut it.
Nothing against the company - this just isn't quite as good as it needs to be -- in particular for my use. I really wanted to have ONE shield and not have to change it from day to night as the NEXX helmet does not have a quick-change shield setup.
I'm looking into other options ---phototransitional could work -- or a tinted pinlock shield that can snap in and out-- but for now I'll have to swap or maybe use dark all day and then just flip it all the way up and wear clear goggles at night.

Ok, I think i should chime in and give some of my feedback here also.
We started to carry the E-tint line up recently but I have had it on my personal helmet for a while now to do some testing on it to see how it would work before deciding to pick up the line. I have the large shield on my Nolan N43 Trilogy and I'm actually super happy with it. I'm not experiencing the rainbowing effect that Firefly is experiencing and this is due to the fact that the AX9 has the battery and switching unit right in the middle of the unit so when you bend to install the shield it does not create a complete wrap around the shield like the MX-8 would. The lack of the flexibility in the middle section sometimes creates a gap in the middle of the shield and the 50/50 contact with the shield and LC film creates this rainbow effect that you do not see on the MX-8 model because it wraps cleanly around the shield. I purposefully only carry the MX-8 for this reason after my testing conclusion was done. Though if anyone wants the AX-9 I do have them but not posted on the site. I will make it available if you guys want it though but that is my take on the unit. The other factor is I was not fond of the auto switching feature. Yes it is convenient but I would rather control it with a push of a button. Sure on the auto one you can manually turn off to but that means you've got to reach inside the helmet and stick your hand up the visor to turn it off which found inconvenient especially if you wear gloves. It is almost difficult to do. If anyone has any questions please PM or email me and I can help answer any questions you all might have. Thanks guys.
