• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Drive belt question?

I'm sure this has been asked before. What is the average life of the drive belt, and how difficult is it to change? Is there a how to video or pictures?
Is this a dealer only task?

Don't know what average is ,But i have about 16 thousand miles on mine still looks new. As far as how hard it is to change,
Depends on your mechanical ability's.:dontknow: That said it ain't hard.
If I'm not mistaken there are a few how to's on Spyderlovers.

Many out here with 50,000 plus on them. I'd say you should be able to get 75,000 - 100,000---- barring any road damage to the belt.

Shop Manual shows how to change it --- not too difficult--- setting proper tension and alignment are the trickiest parts....

Wow, that's better than I thought! That's cool! And I must say that the belt on both our Spyders look like new. Mine has 10k on it now and kathy's RS-S has 7K.

Not sure I'd do that job. But that's just me. I think at this point I feel better having my tech deal with the drive line and engine stuff.

Mine is being replaced right now at about 17K due to having an issue where my front sprocket needs to be replaced. However, when I was checking the belt for damage before dropping it off at the dealer I could not see any at all. This is with it actually wearing grooves into the sprocket assembly as well, so these belts must be pretty dang tough.

Firefly gave me suggestion to ask the dealer for my old belt to keep around for just in case, and I am definitely going to see if he will give it to me.

That is a great idea! Good thinking, firefly! As I recall, these belts aren't cheap. Not sure if BRP is gonna want that belt back for any kind of analysis since it's a warranty repair. But if not I say go for it man...

When i had my spark plug wires replaced, I paid for the repair myself.
Then to get reimbursed [warranty] i had to give them back the old wires.
I didn't care because the wires were unusable. But the belt might be usable again.:dontknow: [in a emergency]
