• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Dress Key

Has anyone been able to get dealer that will program the Dress Key out of the computer? Lately I get the Dress Key on my dash. I pull the key out put it back it always goes away. I would sure like to get that removed.

You need to talk to JC about the DESS issue: he has disabled it on a lot of bikes.
Not just any dealership can perform this bit of wizardry: you need one with a Master License for BUDS.
(That may not be the correct term for the type of license that it needed...)

If you are getting DESS error on your screen and you are under warranty, get the bike to a dealer to have the DESS system replaced before you are left stranded. It WILL happen.

If you are out of warranty, your options are getting DESS replaced at your cost or getting to a shop with a Megatech Licence for BUDS and having DESS disabled on your bike.

Do not continue to put this off.

I have no warranty on my Spyder. I purchased it used and I do all my own service work and have no good dealers in my area. Since I do all my on work no dealer would probably do it for me anyway. Mind has never been any big problem it just comes on now and then and I pull the key and put it back and it starts.

Agree

We have seen this quite a bit here for a time. Thing is it starts out like yours and a few key pulls and your good to go but it gets worse and eventually you will not be able to get her going. Good info on the mega-tech and I was not aware of them. Good luck but do look into it soon....

how long does it take to do it?
About as long as it takes to boot up your computer. I had the same problem last year on my STL right before Spyderfest. I took an extra day to drive down there and he did it for me. It takes no time at all really. It was like peace of mind that I would not get stuck somewhere with that error.

Are there many Spyder dealer's that have the MegaTech license or is it just special dealers?

A few of the larger dealers do. But its mostly independent shops that pony up for the more expensive licence.

I reiterate, if its showing the DESS error on screen, you are on borrowed time and it WILL leave you stranded and refuse to start. Lots of collective experience with this among the forum.

I rode over 200 miles today to three dealers in my area. One did not know if they had the licence or not the other two did have the licence but said it could not be done. This is why there are not many Spyders in my ares. There all real large Can Am dealers selling 4 wheeler s, water craft and snow mobiles. Spyders are just side line. Their service departments are real rude only want you to schedule and appointment and leave your Spyder and they will look at it. I have never had any motorcycle I liked any better but I see it is going to be pretty short owned. I spent over $1500 just to get it to ride and handle good. Car Tires, Centrimatic wheel balancers , Bajaron Sway Bar, Drivers Back Rest, Floor Boards, Laser Aligned and Doc's belt tensioner. Now on here I have been told I better do something quick because I will get strand-ed. There is nothing I can do myself and no dealer seems to know what I am talking about. I purchased this to tour on not just to ride around town. I can still ride a two wheeler so I will take it back to the Honda dealer and see if he will trade me a 2018 Gold Wing. This is disgusting.
