• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

drain plug stripped out, anyone have a better replacment

Funny..mine are hex and after reading this post I thought for sure I had Torx. Wrong, I stripped out the plug trying to use the torx. :gaah:

Everything happens for a reason. I'm ordering new magnetic plugs for both crankcase and reservoir. Can't imagine having two plugs pulling any stray metal shavings is a bad thing. :D

Was going to let the dealer handle getting the plug out...but I think I can get the stripped one out next oil change. Several options.

I changed stock plugs. These plugs are a lot better. My dealer flipped out about changing plugs from OEM drain plugs. Said it would void the warranty. I think he is wrong.

He's gonna have to prove that any failure was caused by the replacement plug. That's the law. Dealers like that give me a rash!

I agree Scotty. That's just about what I told him. Of course these are the same people who overfilled my wife's RS at last oil change they did. Change my own oil now. After the oil change they did it was leaking oil, found drain plug in engine loose. Two turns and it fell out. Good thing I changed oil before our trip to SITS. Could have turned out bad. They will never change oil again in my RT or RS.

People wonder why I am allergic to Spyder Maintenance people?

Mine are both Hex (Allen) and I have never had any problems taking them off. I use a 3/8 ratchet with an Allen socket. Just be sure the socket is all the way in the plug and you should not have any stripping problems...at least I haven't after 8 oil changes (40,000/5000, approximate).

:agree:Plug's [oil] are stripping because some are mistaken Allen for Torx,
Then thinking someone over tighten them.
Put a Torx on an Allen and sooner or later it will strip.

Oil plugs

Here's pics of my drain plugs--- all 6mm Hex.

You are so right Firefly. My oil plugs are both 6mm Hex--09 SM5. I cannot believe they are using both Hex and Torx drives arbitrarly. I do know that you can put the 6mm Torx in the Hex apeture, and if you are lucky it won't strip out.nojoke

I stand corrected, turns out mine are both Allen, for some reason the Torx seemed to fit better at first, anyways the engine drain is still too tight to remove but next change I'll put a breaker bar to it or whatever it takes to remove it. I will still repace them both with the ones I ordered both have magnets and bolt heads.
