• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

DPS recall

DPS recall [edit: not a recall, just an email notice]

Apparently there is a recall of some DPS units on the RT. Not sure if it's limited to 2013 models or not. Anyway, all I know is the service manager at my dealer called today and needs to get the serial number of the DPS unit on my bike. It was replaced last September. The one they took out is on the recall list, so I guess that's why it started to act up. They need to check to see if the replacement unit was manufactured after the recall list items or not.

Maybe Lamonster or someone else can get the straight scoop on this and let us know.

It does not look like a recall. More likely a technical service bulletin. No mention about DPS on BRP Canada, US web site or on Canadian US government web sites. It would be nice if someone could get a copy and post it.

What is DPS?

Since I am a new commer what is a DPS?

Man, like the 2013 RT owners needed something else to worry about. They should just buy them all back and scrap them. nojoke

Web Access to Warranty Bulletins??

WasWinger, it is obvious your dealer is on top of things, by notifying you of a Warranty Bulletin. I wish my dealer did that. I think they are all supposed to, but most seem to wait until a customer complains about an item, or when the Spyder is in for service.

Does anyone know a web source to look up Warranty Bulletins for the Spyder? It's next to impossible to find these things. Shawn Kasner sometimes posts them on his blog site (www.spydertechnician.com) but only when he feels like talking about one.

Just looked at the NHTSA website. No bulletin there about this. Nothing on the BRP site either. Hard to track if you don't know where the info is coming from.

If it's not a safety recall I don't think it will be on the NHTSA site. For example my 2005 Nissan Titan had a recall for exhaust manifold cracking. It's not in the NHTSA listings. But it could also be a TSB item that the service manager just referred to as a recall. Generally speaking I don't believe TSBs are usually made available for public view, anywhere, at least not by the manufacturers.

The use of the word recall is one of my pet peeves. Recalls are issued by NHTSA and you would receive a letter in the mail if your Spyder is affected. This is most likely a Service Bulletin and you most likely will not be notified but will find out when you take your Spyder in for service.

:agree::agree: However, NHTSA does post Service Bulletins on their website, but so far, nothing related to this. They don't post them unless they get them from the manufacturer.

Yup! That was the BIG recall; they brought every 2008, 2009, and 2010 machine in, so that they could replace the DPS units..

There was a recall of DPS units on 2010 RTs and I think, but not sure, on some 2011 models as well.
Right, but this is not related to that one. I'm guessing there may have been only a limited number of DPS units affected by whatever problem was with mine. I believe my machine was built early 2013. The first owner bought it new in July, 2013.

How do you search for TSBs on the site? When I tried it wants a NHTSA ID number. What is a NHTSA ID number?

I had 1 instance of almost loss of control 1 month after buying mine in 7/13. I was on a 4 lane road and it just went left across both lanes. I fought it and regained control before going into the median but if it had been 2 lanes and on coming traffic I would not be here. I wrote it off to a wind gust at the time I did not have much time to think about it when it happened. No real incidents since that occurrence. I would like to hear more about this......

Sounds like yours may be in the suspect group. Ask your dealer to follow up with BRP. It's possible, but I hope not, that my dealer was made aware of the issue only because he sent my old DPS back in for warranty inspection. Your buy is in the same time frame as the original sale of mine.

Go to the NHTSA website & click "search for recalls". Then chose year, 2013, manufacturer, Can-Am, & model, Spyder RT. This will open a new page where you can see recalls, complaints, investigations, & service bulletins.

That shows 3. 1 for the 2014 oil leak and 2 for the 13 fuse box sealing and belt guard on the RS. I find it hard to believe there have only been 3 TSB's sent out:dontknow:
