I went for a much anticipated ride Sunday and my power steering went out. Came back home and read on SL that it was probably the battery. So after a trip to AutoZone I discovered my battery was bad but fully charged. So I went on a quest to see about changing out the battery. The post on SL was discouraging on doing it yourself. I called my dealer, they didn't have one and would have to order, didn't even ask the price. A Honda dealer in town had one for $140!. Went to Battery Plus and got a 2 yr guaranteed Duracell for $109. After a couple of hours the new battery is in and working fine. The steering is effortless now! WOW.
For those wanting to do yourself, I learned a lot about the access to the battery. The Lt lower side panel has to be removed. We didn't have to take the mirror off, just took the bolts out of the tupperware above the lower side panel and lifted it up to access the underside bolts. The seat and back heated grip sensors have to be unplugged. The battery is in there very tight. It was a struggle to get it out. I can't imagine what the dealer would have charged, Geez! It was fun and worth the effort. Every time I work on my beloved "Duke", I learn a little more.
