• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

DOS AND DONTS

On the advise for new owners there is a warning to not leave your screen in its lowest position all the time as this can lead to the failure of the bottom arm. That apparently results in a huge bill. I have done about 750 miles in the last couple of weeks akways with it all the way down and for me it's perfect. Is the warning true or just a filthy rotten lie. I have a shiny new 17 Limited.

Wind shield

There have been ideas, that leaving your wind shield all the way down will or could fracture the aluminum cast holding the wind shield. Just raise the wind shield about a 1\4' to get it off the rest and you should be good to go. Just and idea.

:dontknow: But does it hurt, to just bump it up off of the stops? :dontknow:
BRP doesn't sell just the center strut. According to them: the entire motor assembly has to be replace. :yikes:
Noboot does sell a fantastic center strut replacement arm . (I keep one here in my desk! :D)
It is possible to take things apart, and replace it.
But why take a chance?

I saw the warning before I took possession of my Spyder and bumped it up a tad before leaving the dealerhip. Better safe than sorry.

On my 10 I always ran it in the lowest position and after 40,000 miles or so it broke. Since then I have always raised it an inch or so and I've not had any problems. My current Spyder has over 118,000 miles with no cracks in the arm.

To be safe, I would probably raise it a tad. But I logged in 21k miles on my 2014 RT with about 95% of the miles being with it all the way down. No issues.

Its raised, but not enough to notice. I shall now forget I ever read the advise in the first place.
Im very new to the Spyder world so everything is still a mystery after only 748 miles. Great fun after 2 wheels though.

Maybe. I noticed that allows mine to move around a bit more; IE vibrates more.
Not much but a little.

In my riding I attribute that vibration more to the quality of the road service and it varies from county to county down here.
