Don't use a Torx when you should use an Allen

Did the first oil change on my '22 RT today and having done about a zillion changes since 2011 figured I had my tools sorted. Dumped the engine oil with a Torx and all went well. Went to drop the transmission plug, also with a torx, and reamed it pretty good before I realized I should have been using a 6mm Allen! Tapped the 6mm in good and luckily it broke loose. Replaced both with Gold PLugs.

The old saying "never too old to learn" is, in my case, "too old to know whatcha doing"......lol

Don't feel alone in doing this. Seems to be a common problem. Glad you were able to do an easy fix.

You need to add an LED worklight to your tool collection. It's dark under there. Also a small bright LED flashlight to reinstall the battery holddown plate in the frunk.

I use a pair of ramps, about 5" high, but it doesn't make for much room underneath. The plastic cover over the transmission drain area was loose and in trying to get it reattached it fell off. Will have to leave it off until such time as I get to the dealer for some reason.

On an occasion when I've stupidly spun out an allen head I've been able to cram a torx in it with a small hammer and break it loose. You have to be 10 times as careful if you approach it that way, but it can be done.

I've seen a surprising number of youtube videos that explicitly tell you to use a Torx instead of a 6 mm. :gaah:

Fortunately, this will never be an issue for me. If my dealer uses a Torx instead of an Allen and screws it up, that is his problem to fix before he returns the Spyder to me. :2thumbs:
