Doing an Oil change on my 2023 RT - how much oil?

Do not tell me to read the manual, I did it they say 5 quarts

I've read few post saying from 5 to 5.25 to 5.5

The oil change kit shows 6 saying that all I need is in the kit ... usually they are reluctant at giving you more than you need

so for the people who are changing the oil in their garage, how many quarts should I buy and how much will I use 5 or 6 or ....

Most simply fill with about 5 quarts, then do a test ride of say 10-15 minutes to at least start getting the oil up to its operating temp (but beware, the coolant will get up to temp WAAAAYYY sooner than the oil, so don't rely on your temp gauge - do the ride time! :lecturef_smilie: ) and then used the approved post-ride oil level check process, topping up with only just enough oil as is necessary to ensure that the oil level is closer to but still below the Top or Full mark on the dipstick than it is to the Low or Fill mark - do TRY NOT TO OVERFILL THESE WITH OIL!! It's a dry sump engine, and at the very least, the mess they can make if you overfill is not nice!!

Just so long as the oil level is still above that Low mark on checking the level within a couple of minutes of riding it long enough to warm up the oil, then you've got enough oil in there to safely run the engine, and the 1330's rarely use oil, so there's never any need to over-fill or even get it absolutely exactly on the Full mark either!!

And do remember that it's always best to check the oil level immediately AFTER a good ride - then you know that you're ready to go next time without any risk of over-filling, unless there's a puddle of oil underneath your Spyder - cos oil can drain out of the reservoir while it's sitting, and pool in the bottom of the engine where it won't be measured when you check, so checking before a ride & topping up the oil seriously risks dangerously overfilling! :sour:

Good Luck!

Ok its pretty clear now thanks Peter !!

Just changed the oil/filter on my 2022 RT STS last week. Manual called for (5) qts with oil filter change. Added (5) qts. Checked oil after a long ride and it was right up to the full mark.

The oil change kit I got from my dealer (a BRP kit) contained 5.5 Qt of oil. Since I only have car ramps to lift the bike, it was slightly tilted toward the rear. I assumed that there would be a slight amount of oil left in there, so when adding, I only put in one pint (approx) of the 1 Qt. After a 15-mile ride, I checked the level, and the oil was right at the center bulb on the dip stick. I am satisfied that I am OK on the oil front. Final thought, 5.5 Qt's of oil would be the correct amount to use.

OK, so I'll go with 5! lol

Wise choice! I had the dealer do my first service and when I got home I had to remove 1 qt. of oil the hard way. KIDS! :gaah: nojoke I don't mind kids working and learning on my stuff but they need responsible and close supervision.

I had 6 quarts from Lamonster's kit. I used 5.5 quarts. Dipstick read 1/2 way between full and max. I didn't use a lift or jack. Bike was planted on all 3 wheels on a level garage floor. Still have a bit left to top off if needed, but this engine doesn't use any oil.

I remove and set aside both drain plugs and when I loosen the oil filter cap another shot of oil comes out of the engine. After that I let it sit for a couple hours or sometimes overnight and quite a bit more comes out of the engine. When I put 5.5 quarts in from there it is either right on the full mark or just under.

Another goofy gaffe on BRP's end. According to the owners manual, my 2019 F3S stated 5.5 quarts of oil with filter. My 2022 RT STS states 5 quarts of oil with filter. On my F3S, 5.25 quarts was the happy spot.

The documentation on this subject is inconsistent. In my French and English owner's manuals, there is no mention of the JASO MA2 requirement, whereas the repair manual references SN ... or ... JASO MA2 specifications.

During a normal oil filter change I usually use about 5.2 quarts and that brings it on the high side in between the min/max marks on the dipstick.

But during my most recent change I did my first HCM filter change at 30K Miles.

Make sure you have a pan under both plugs when pulling the HCM as a little more oil drops out when you pop the HCM filter off.

The usual amount of 5.2 just barely came up to the min/max mark after a 1-hour idle period to purge it while giving it a wash, then a 1-hour leisurely drive.

I had to add in about 0.1-0.2 quarts to bring it up to the high side in between the min/max mark.

So, put 5 quarts in it and then check the dipstick. If they sell kits with 6 quarts, and some say it takes 5.5 quarts . . . ?
