Ultimate not stay up when raised? If so, what was the remedy?

Yesterday my Ultimate set didn't want to remain in the raised position. In fact during one fill up the seat slammed down on top of the removed fuel cap and jammed. Had to press down on the seat with the key turned to release the locking mechanism.

I remember someone doing a mod that installed a bar under the seat that could be lowered to act as a prop to keep the seat up. Did a search on "seat" but could not locate the post. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks,

I have the same problem. The stock prop weakened after 2 years. Rather than buy a new one, I cut an old tent pole to 12" long and added crutch tips to the ends. Works just fine.

I'd take the support strut to an autoparts store and get a heavier one, The struts used to hold up the back of van rear doors comes to mind.,

Thanks, Eddie. Your mod was exactly what I was looking for. Unfortunately your mod is not quite so easy with the Ultimate seat molded seat pan...no convenient place to connect the rod. I'm still going to try to work something like your mod for when I want/need to carry something strapped to the rear seat. In the mean time I took Rattigan_Roger's advice and purchased a stronger gas strut from an auto parts store, installed it, and seat now stays up.

YOu'd just need to match it up for overall length and whatever connections are used at both ends... :clap:
