• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Does anyone leave the parking brake off during winter storage? And some rodent protection discussion...

Hrmmm... I've had my Spyder parked in the garage since mid October with the parking brake on. I'm going to power it up this weekend to update the display, maybe I'll turn off the parking brake. I never thought about it, but keeping the pull on that cable for an extended time might not be the best thing for it.
I have similar going on. I have my Spyder 2024 RT-L linked up from a wire in the frunk to an optimizer although it doesn't seem to display as much as when on motorbikes? Maybe see like you say take battery out? I guess it's just under that plastic zipper cover? Also you say update of the display - are you doing that via wifi ? Is it easy to do? I may do mine too.

I haven't done the update yet. The email I received has a link to a how-to page. It looks simple enough. It includes instructions for connecting the Spyder to Wi-Fi.

A lot of good Tips on Parking Brake.
I have learned that it really does not matter what you decide to do.
Brake On or Off I have not had any problems. Maybe if your Battery goes bad it might be an issue. I keep my Battery on my tender, so no worries about the Battery.

Enjoy your Ryde Times and Stay Healthy.

Newbee question here: I think my RTL beeps profusely if I don't set up the parking brake after I turn the ignition off...

And your question is?

Does your RTL beep profusely if you turn it off without setting the parking brake? Yes, it does.

If it's like my F3, it beeps exactly 15 times and then shuts up.

Yeap, thank you, that was my question, I never waited for it to beep 15 times, my patience is not that great :)

OK sounds good. Can you keep me updated pls? I will do a youtube video on my channel when I do mine.
I released my parking brake and did the display software update tonight. As requested, here are some observations.
  • The email I received has a link to this how-to page on the Can-Am website: https://can-am.brp.com/on-road/us/e...10-25-display/update-touchscreen-display.html
  • That how-to says you can do the update without starting the engine. This may not be true for you; it was not for me.
  • After the update finished downloading (with key on but engine not running) I then got a message saying battery voltage was too low to install the update, so I exited out of the update menu and started the engine.
  • After starting the engine I went back into the menu and installed the update. A white progress bar went from 0 to 100 fairly quickly and I thought the install was done, but it was not.
  • The screen went black for a few seconds, then came back on with a red progress bar that took significantly longer to get to 100.
  • After that completed, the install was done.
  • I don't have an Apple phone so I don't use ACP so I can't speak to the advertised improvements.

My Winter Storage is rather simple. Fresh Gas, Pull the Batt. Park in Neutral/No Parking Brake and roll the wheels onto old carpet scraps. I also add Moth Crystals under the full cover to keep the rodents from moving in. Sleeps all winter and ready to wake up in the Spring!

If using mothballs/crystals works for you then it works. Perhaps you don't even have a rodent problem?

The consensus is that these things do not work, at all.

"Mothballs are ineffective as a rodent repellent. Plus, using them in a manner not approved by the mothball label can expose your family to toxic chemicals."

Not the only source but here's one. https://www.orkin.com/ask-orkin/mothballs-used-to-repel-pests

"The strong scent of peppermint is overwhelming to mice. Similarly, essential oils such as eucalyptus oil, bergamot oil, clove oil, and cinnamon oil are potent in keeping mice at bay. One study noted that eucalyptus oil applied once a day was more effective as a rat repellant than once a week."

Rats aren't slow... I don't know if it was in response to anything above, but a while back, a couple of the Universities here in Oz got together to study rodents reaction to various deterrents and their habits generally in a bit more detail, and while it wasn't initially one of their tests, they discovered that it didn't really seem to matter matter WHAT 'deterrent' was 'applied' once a day instead of once a week.

IIRC, they tried all sorts of 'supposedly attractive baits and deterrent' type stuff; amongst a range of other baits, they tried peppermint, tea-tree oil, eucalyptus, even water... The initial results showed that rats appeared less frequently at those sites/test stations where the testers &/or humans appeared most often/more frequently than 'once a week'. So once that became clear, they decided to look into this a little deeper, and eventually they concluded that regardless of the 'attractiveness of the bait' or the 'unattractiveness of the deterrents', rats simply tended to 'visit' those sites where humans/testers appeared daily far less often than the rats appeared at any sites where the testers visited less frequently &/or regardless of the bait or deterrent, even at those testing stations/sites where the testers did NOTHING AT ALL except VISIT, simply 'visiting and then leaving', applying & doing NOTHING AT ALL except going there!!

SMART RATS - 1
HUMAN's &/or TESTER's - 0 :ROFLMAO:

So, it seems that the cheapest and most effective 'rodent damage deterrent' for your Spyder is to visit it at least once a day.... ;)

Rats are MUCH more intelligent than mice.

Back in the day when I had to work for a living, part of my job was working in a research setting in a university lab.

At one point we had a 1,000 rats and 800 mice. Not only are rats smarter than mice but they smell WAY better too.

Walking into the rat area, the smell was hardly noticeable. Not so in the mouse area, them things stink to high heaven!

One of the things that was kinda funny, and a bit unsettling at times, was walking into the rat area, every single rat would stop what they were doing and look at who just came in the door. That's 2000 beady eyes looking at you wondering if you were they to feed them, water them, or to do them "harm". I won't go into exactly what "harm" meant but it wasn't good for the rats at all. Unless you're a rat in the control group, then maybe...

Never occurred to me to NOT put the brake on. I leave the battery in the Spyder and hook it up to the Battery Tender when not riding, including the winter months. I add Stabil, run the engine for 10 minutes, have it on the Battery Tender, stuff a rag in the exhaust. Always works fine come Spring. Seems better than having to chock the wheels to keep it from possibly rolling.

I was just wondering if anyone leaves the parking brake off while their Spyder is put up for an extended time. Pros/cons of leaving it off.
I have to leave the parking brake engaged on my 2018 Spyder RT Limited SE-6 or it electronically screams very loudly after I stop the engine and turn the key to the off position. John G. I've never had any issues leaving the parking brake engaged for a few weeks.
