Does anybody have an RT (not RT-S or Limited)?

we have a 2010 premiere rts-se5 limited and are glad we bot it with all the bells n beepers...the bike was on the floor when we walked in but had a sold tag on it..we decided to order a limited with everything..were in the process of specing the bike which was easy...rts-se5 limited everything...when the owner of the dealer ship came and told us the buyer called n cancelled the order, they had got the bike special for him. needless to say the dealer was very unhappy and kept his deposit!!!! the dealer came and took us a side and asked if we were interesed in the sold bike which was timeless black (not my favorite color)..since he kept the deposit he sold the bike to us for 22,900.00 we rode the bike home that day. they even threw in 2 helmets...and are very glad we bot a limited or i would have spent a fortune put in stock upgrades on it..only thing it did not comm system or cb radio. we wanted wireless any way no big deal...if you can swing it, look at the spec sheets and order what you want...oh incidentely another thing that helped was that it has a serial number of 0058.!!!!58-1500.. the man that ordered it wouldnt buy unless it had a serial number of 0100 or less, dealer spent a lot of time finding this bike...his loss was our gain....

One thing to keep in mind as well is resale. When the serial number says RT, no S or Limited, even with all of the added packages, it'll still price out as an RT without the add ons you paid extra for. Yes, you can add them to the NADA or KBB options, but the base value is still against the original bike.

I guess I am one of those with the opposite opinion. I bought a 2010 RT-S premier edition #474. That version had all the bells and whistles on it. My only add ons were a Corbin seat, floorboards and a bunch of lights.

When it came time for a second RT--we bought a 2011 RT A & C new in 2012. The money I saved was the main reason. I have added a comfort seat, floorboards, and additional lights. Don't plan on adding anything additional. Don't even miss the auto air shocks.

This go around--less is better.

We have a 2010 base RT - no S, no Limited, no A&C. The only thing I've added is Alaska Leathers sheepskin seat pads, 2011 RT shocks, and a BajaRon sway bar. I would have added all that to any 2010 RT. I don't listen to music when I'm riding, if I did I'd add an MP3 player to my Scala headsets. It takes me about 30 seconds to adjust the air pressure in my rear shock (much easier and faster than any other suspension adjustment I've ever had). I like the look of the base RT much better than the others with more chrome. I don't need fog lights. In short, there's nothing on the S's, Limited's or A&C's that I'd give any money for. And I'll bet that, when I finally sell my RT, if I ever do, it will bring a larger percentage of what I paid for it than the more expensive ones. Note that I probably won't sell it for a long, long time because I can't really buy a base RT anymore. Oh, one other thing, I don't remember just how much but the base RT is quite a bit lighter than the others so, in this case, it really is faster : )

I got a 2012 RT SM5 A&C. . I've added the fog lights (I just like the look), and 12v plug in the frunk. Hooked up sirius radio and got the NBV pegs from Lamonster. But then again--I love to wrench on bikes so I did all the work myself. The mods might have been more $$ then getting the RT-S, but then I would have missed all the fun of working on the bike myself! I went with the SM5--coming from a Hayabusa I wasn't sure I was ready for the electric trainee. Just my preference.

I've got a 2012 RT SM5, base model. When you do the math on msrp pricing, you can add whatever you'd like for less money and you'll probably recover a higher percentage of initial cost on resale. Spyder owners tend to be modders and you can always add whatever you'd like. The base RT has the same air suspension, just not the ability to remote control it from the dash. I added an RV air controller that's more functional for a lot less. For music I have a Sena headset and stream from my iphone. You get a lot more options that way and excellent sound. You can always add chrome or wheels or seat, whatever floats your boat.

I may have implied the wrong thing with my previous post about resale. Turning a base RT into one of the other models will cost more and bring less in a resale situation. Adding other mods is a whole different world. You end up with tons more cash for those upgrades going with the base model. Most other mods are a loss in a sale either way, regardless of model.
Good luck with your decision.

I bought my bike (RT A&C SE5) because I was looking only at price of package. It wasn’t long before I wanted some of the parts that the S had (fog lights, chrome trims, etc,) and I wound up paying more for the upgrades than the package would have when you include labor. The part I do not like is the lack of the adjustable rear suspension and the small air bladder (on the A&C) that is constantly running out of air pressure and leaving my butt absorbing bumps-a-plenty.

You and I must have gone to different High Schools together! :D

Only I did the "full upgrade" to RTS specs... It was a bloody two and a half years, but with some careful purchasing I was able to actually save a little bit over the cost of an actual RTS.
But the next time I buy; I'm going top-shelf; right from the start!

RT A&C

We went with the A&C SE5 2011 leftover last year in '12 much like akspyderman did. The close to 5k savings as a leftover and the fact that no changes were made between model years made the decision easy. Haven't added a single "farkle"...YET! Really want some floorboards.

It's actually kind of fun taking your bike, and upgrading with the up-model items that really tickle your fancy!
Hey Roger,
Did that cousin-in-law who's real clever at making V.I.N. plates ever get paroled? I'd like to change my bike over to an unofficial 2014 RTS/L! :roflblack: :joke:

I have a 2011 RT/AC with an SM5. I found that what I liked/needed on the RTS was not worth the money.

I ride solo, so I don't need the adjustable suspension. Additional colors were nice but I liked the blue. I also liked the fogs, but figured they could be added for much cheaper than the delta cost between RT A/C and RTS.

If you plan on converting your RT into an RTS, it will be cheaper to buy the RTS, but if you only want 1 or 2 things, you can upgrade for cheaper.

If I had to do it all over again, I would redo the exact same thing.

...Ben...
