Does an OEM F3-T Limited seat have a Gel insert?

My wife is complaining that the seat on her 2016 F3-T Limited Special Series is too hard. I purchased a Gel/Memory foam insert pad from Motorcycle Dave. When I took the pad and seat to a local auto upholstery shop they looked at it and said that the seat had gel in it from the factory? They did not remove the cover but said they could feel it. I did not have them do anything as they would have charged me to R&R the cover.
Does anybody have any info on whether they do indeed have gel in them?

Just got done redoing my 2016 Limited seat with Motorcycle Dave's gel and I like it. The original seat does not have gel in it.

I haven’t pulled my seat off to check yet, but is the vinyl cover stapled on or glued? Any tips for installing? Was it a worthwhile project?

My 2016 has some kind of foam, nothing similar to the Gel from Motorcycle Dave. That Gel insert was the best bang for the buck of the many farkles I have added to the machine. Thanks Dave

Tom was it difficult to remove the seat cover? Any issues you in countered. How long did it take you?

Interested as well. I still have the gel insert I was going to have installed. Curious about reattaching cover. Motorcycle Dave kind of schooled me on how to install the insert but I have questions about what you used to reattach the cover to the seat pan when done?

Alternative "Removable" Install Idea for Dave's Gel Pad

So I ordered and received the gel pad insert from Motorcycle Dave. Looks like it is going to be a good addition to add to the comfort of the OEM seat and hopefully allow me to avoid having to buy an after-market saddle. I tend to go thru my toys at a frequent rate, so I was wondering if there would be a lazy way to get the benefits of the gel pad without making it permanent. I happen to have an Air Hawk, and I just put the gel pad inside the Air Hawk "sleeve" underneath the air bladder. While this is going to raise me up around a 1/2 to 3/4 inch or so, the pad fit in the sleeve perfectly. I will test this out and let you know how I find it.

I have no trouble tossing the Air Hawk into a saddle bag when I head indoors. This way, if I happen to sell the bike, I still have the Air Hawk with the gel pad for my next toy (maybe Spyder #4 :-) ) I have the Calsci windshield and likely ordered it a bit too tall as I tend to look thru the shield vs over it if I slouch at all in the saddle. So raising me up a bit seems to be a good side benefit.

I have been looking at the Ultimate saddles which tend to raise you up a bit and that was appealing to me as I have long legs and being a bit higher up will feel a bit better on my crappy knees. While I know that this will never feel as stable as a permanent install, I suspect that this will be a viable alternative to taking the seat cover off and carving out an area for the gel pad. If it feels to squirrely, I can always do the permanent install.

Anyone else try this with Dave's gel pad? I know there are other gel pad seat cushions out there, but Dave's seems like a quality product and a reasonable price. Since I already had the Air Hawk kicking around, it seemed worth a try.

It will take an air power stapler and short staples to reattach the seat cover.
Manual or electric staplers will not work. Well worth the effort.

Dray

Glad to know before I tear off the cover as I do not have an air powered stapler. I would think most people don't. I will definitely try my alternative approach for a while before I tackle this as I have no need for an air powered stapler for anything other than this.

Keep us updated on how it feels after a while. I like your idea. This way you can easily take it with you to another bike. We own air hawks as well. Tom :spyder:

Just had the Gel insert from Motorcycle Dave installed. The stock seat does not have any gel, in fact the foam on the sides was broken down. Am very pleased with the gel insert have put about 2000 miles on it.

Did you have it done or do it yourself? If you had it done do you mind letting us know what you were charged?

I like my Ultimate seat but wish It was as low as the stock seat But the Ultimate is also a few inches wider which offers more lateral support but sits about an inch higher.
