Documentation of Maintenance

We have kicked this around a little bit in the past but I need some advice. All you guys who do your own maintenance feel free to jump in and tell me what I should do. My closest dealer is 120 miles away and I have not been impressed with them. Our local SpYder club tries to do the scheduled maintenance like oil changes but there are other things listed that sound like I should use a dealer. I have had no issues or problems. Should we use a dealer or if not how do we document our PM for future problems? I have a 2015 RTL about to have 9000 miles.

First and foremost: Save receipts for oil and filters.

Others can add more ideas.

I let the dealer do mine, but have all the paperwork from each :spyder2: in its own folder. I pass that along when I sell or trade the machine.

My memory needs some help and that help is easy enough with an Excel spreadsheet on the computer with tabs or sheets for the various cars/toys. A folder as noted holds the receipts and service invoices for the visits at the dealer and any parts/orders. The spreadsheet table just lists date, mileage, type of service, and filter name, oil name, or tire or parts used in the service.

Just to be safe, I'd print out the required check list check & initial, and take any pictures that might go along with the receipts.

I agree - Keep everything but, I am going to take it one step farther. My printer is also a scanner so, I will be scanning my receipts and invoices to a PDF file. Over time a lot of the paperwork fades and gets unreadable. Being diabetic I scan all of my medical records to keep my health insurance straight. Then I can then just email them the documents they need. It has worked well.

2. Write down the dates, mileages, and what you've done in the owner's manual. :thumbup:

Like others have said, its as simple as

1 Save receipts
2 Keep a log up to date.

I keep a log on a spreadsheet of everything I do, along with receipts for parts. It's a nice thing to hand over to the new owner when you sell.

All of the above will serve you well. I have found over time it really did not make a bit of difference for me but do keep all instructions and receipts for the mods and farkels I have made. I also have a chart for oil changes and tires etc but mostly for myself....:thumbup:

I, thought I read in the manual after your first oil change on a 14-16 needs to be done every 9,000 miles after first oil change .:banghead::banghead::banghead:

For all my vehicles including the Spyder :ani29: I have made a word document to record all maintenance that was completed, no matter who did it.

Save receipts if done yourself. :clap:

Yes, every 9,300 miles or one year, which ever occurs first.
