• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Do YOU Hear The Similarities?

I hadn't been paying attention to this story; but was aware of it's existence...
Now I see why those guys are ticked-off at "The Zep"...

They are very similar but if you know a little about music you can hear where they are different. The trick will be getting a jury to understand the differences.

Last evenings news talked about the story. They pulled up a piece from the 1700's or 1800's that sounded similar also. There are only 12 usable notes in the music scale. There are bound to be some sound alike things. Just my .02.

:agree::thumbup: But food for thought is more why are they just now making said claim? :lecturef_smilie:
I remember the fuss between Queen & Vanilla Ice took som time but not decades. :dontknow:
Is the question more who made the song , or made the song Famous??:p & if a claim is awarded are they going to demand outdated royalties that were paid to the more famous Zeppelin :gaah: :coffee: It all sucks :banghead:as lawyers are known for:p:roflblack:

I read that the statute of limitations had run out on the original publishing of Stairway to Heaven but it had been remastered and re-released which started the clock again. Read it on the Internet so of course it's true, right? :roflblack:

You can find similarities in anything if you look for it, to me all rap sounds the same so does gospel

There was a good report on this story a few days ago on our national news (CBC). Although a number of people thought of Stairway to Heaven when listening to the other song's first few notes, the similarity is limited. They thought of the Zep song because that is what people know. How many people ever even heard of the other group's song anyway?
Several prominent musicians pointed out that the differences were significant enough in their mind to say it isn't the same, especially when you see the notes written down.
What was interesting was that the original group were fine with the similarity. It is the family of the original group that initiated this suit. That sounds a lot like greed to me.
So, although most of the musicians seemed to agree that the differences are significant enough to say it isn't a valid suit, they also said that when left up to a jury, who knows what they will decide.
