• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Do you belong to a local Spyder club?

YES US SPYDER RIDERS-Brickyard Chapter. Have Scheduled(2nd Sunday), Support Charity, and Impromptu Rides. Club is in its infancy(4 months); can be found on FB. Club Sponsoring Dealer: Dryer Can-Am: Spyderlovers.com Supporting Dealer $30.00/year dues

Are you in the Indianapolis area then (the club I mean)? What do you like about it so far?

After moving to Arkansas, my wife and I (we both ride Spyders) looked for a group to ride with that was in our area. What we found (actually they found us) was a group that rides every week. Are you ready for this? It's the local chapter of GWRRA! I told them we don't ride Goldwings or Hondas, they said no problem, I said but we ride trikes, no problem as most ride trikes, but ours are Spyders, no problem as most of the trikes are Spyders. Bottom line, we joined GWRRA (boy, do they have great benefits). As a national member, you are automatically a member of all chapters with no dues. I can sure live with that, and they are riders! And no, this is not a GWRRA ad!
By the way, every ride we have been on had more Spyders than any other brand, with GW and Harleys next. Their Pres rides a Spyder, their Membership man rides a Harley. We like them because they ride and sure don't care what you ride.
That's just our experience. Find "people" you enjoy riding with and you'll love every ride!

Welcome. I see you made it over from Trike Talk. Did you sell Angry Bull 1 yet? I saw a picture of your F3 over there,it sure is good looking. Have you posted a picture here yet?

That's a great philosophy. I couldn't agree more!

Thanks Kent. What do you use the dues for? It's not a lot of money but I know it can be a lot of hassle for the club. Thoughts?

I know Spyders have been around 10 years now, but I think it's only in the last 5 years or so that there has been enough 'critical mass' of owners in any one geographical area to support the formation of clubs. And, I think healthy clubs and rallies are essential to providing Can-Am, its dealers and after-market sellers the kind of visibility, support and feedback necessary for them to continue making and supporting these amazing machines.

So, in the interest of helping spread the word about Spyders and engendering greater camaraderie around them, and maybe helping local clubs become more successful, I'd like to get some feedback from you all about your experience with SRA clubs in your area.

  1. Do you belong to one? If so, what do they do that you like and what could be improved, in order to enhance your experience with the club?
  2. Have you considered joining one, or have joined but since quit? What were your reasons for that?
  3. Would you like to join one, but the nearest one is too far away to make active membership in it viable for you?
  4. And, for those of you with more experience on this forum, is there another thread I should be using? Are there any tools on here, such as surveys, that I should consider using?

Finally, and here is the BIG one depending on what state you're in - how does your club manage the potential risk of personal liability (for officers in particular) should someone be injured or property damaged on a club ride or other event? I don't believe that BRP provides any protection for clubs organized under its charter (Spyder Ryders of America), does it?

Thanks.

I'm the co-founder (Chico Fowler is the other) of NISR, pronounced "nicer" for Nebraska Iowa Spyder Ryders. We are in our 4th year of existence. No dues. Monthly rides. Our annual big event is forthcoming called Spyderfever on Aug. 18-20 in Council Bluffs, Iowa at the Country Inn & Suites. Our rally offers every attendee much more for their dollar than any other Spyder event in America!!!!! The $50 per person registration starts off with a meet & greet event with food and beverage included and then on to a glow ride, Spyder games, event T-shirt, raffles, 2 breakfasts, lunch and dinner, ice cream social, 2 organized rides, attractive reduced hotel rate, street dance/karoke, free topless bike wash, some on-site vendors and some off-site vendors offering discounts and some of the best camaraderie of Spyder owners in America because we are NISR!! Come join us.

We started very small but have grown to around 50 members - 30+ very active members. Everyone must sign a liability release form prior to any rides and/or activities. Very cohesive group. Our annual rally now in it's 4th year started small (which we cherish) but now have mid 60's of Spyder owners registered to attend. You can fine us on Facebook and our own web site.

Nice to meet you and to learn about your nicer club! The Spyderfever sounds like a great event; wish I'd known about it earlier but there's always next year. Maybe the folks down in the deep south who are lamenting the lack of organized activities could take a page from your playbook.

Thanks for the info and hope to meet up one of these days. PS are you one of the topless Spyder washers?

Although you may find yourself to be the only Spyder on their rides, for anyone seeking fellow motorcyclists to do responsible, fun things with, look for your local ABATE chapter and attend their next meeting. Most states have ABATE by regions. In Michigan, the regions are numerous and small enough that your monthly meetings are usually just a few miles away.

ABATE stands for American Bikers Aiming Toward Education, with the "education" aimed at everyone from school kids to regular motorists to fellow bikers, with the goal of making everyone aware of each other on the roads. In addition, at least in MI, ABATE is hugely active in creating legislation that benefits motorcyclists, from amending the helmet requirements to repealing unfair insurance taxes on bikers, etc.

Our regions around here have poker runs, memorial rides, any-excuse rides, camping and feasting weekends, and much more.

Joined a club before even owned a spyder but have not ridden with them as yet. The instructor whom got my motorcycle license recommended not traveling with others until I get more experience. Can kind of see his point as I imagine I'd be much slower than the experienced riders and would either be pushing myself in order to keep up or having Spyders behind me bottled up. Looking forward to getting to know other riders hoping some of their expertise rubs off on me.

Thanks. That's a good idea for those in rural areas throughout the country who have expressed dismay at a lack of Spyder-specific clubs.

This is what wikipedia says about the origins of the acronym ABATE;

ABATE is an acronym which originally stood for "A Brotherhood Against Totalitarian Enactments" and alternatively stands for "American Bikers Against Totalitarian Enactments", "A Brotherhood Aimed Towards Education", "American Bikers for Awareness, Training & Education", "American Bikers Aimed Towards Education", " ...

See an earlier post #49 on this thread regarding NISR (Nebraska Iowa Spyder Ryders) https://www.facebook.com/NebraskaIowaSpyderRiders/

I think your instructor has a good point. However, he may be thinking more of the type of club that rides in tight formation - you don't want to be doing that as a newbie for sure. I won't even do it as an experienced rider. But, not all riding clubs are like that. You may want to find a club or group that is very welcoming and supportive (even protective) of newbies - they are out there!

I am one of the 6 Founding Members of the Columbia River Chapter of Spyder Riders of America. We now number in the 90's. Monthly breakfast, usually followed by a group ride. We sign a waver. Low annual dues. BBQ's,
Christmas toy Charity rides, and lots or impromptu rides, Elected officers. A great group and great way to meet new people.

Sounds pretty friendly and informal. The next time we do a NW tour we'll try to hook up with you. Thanks.

Thanks Kent. What do you use the dues for? It's not a lot of money but I know it can be a lot of hassle for the club. Thoughts?

We use the moneys we collect to locale charities like women's shelters, Veterans and animal rescue/shelters, that type of things.

Any other contributions to the thread? Thanks to all who have responded so far; it's been very enlightening for me.
