• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. "Do Not Ride" Recall

I took my SE5 into my dealer yesterday with the recall letter also. They will reprogram the steering and we also talked about the computer failing while programing. He also knew about that. When he checked out my VIN number he said there is another recall on the ground wire thingie. He told me he is expecting the "harness" next week and they will call me when it comes in for an appointment. He said nothing about not driving the rig. I look at it this way.........if it burns........it burns. That's what I have insurance for.

I'm really confused with the answer I got today

Did someone just yell FIRE in a crowded message board? :D

I think your dealer may be mistaken Bro. I'm pretty tight with the BRP techs and I'm pretty sure they would have told me this if this was the case. I reported the ground wire fix a while ago when another dealer posted it on this board, I was checking on him to make sure his info was correct. This is a SE fix for noise/RF from the coil pack, that's it. If BRP does know the cause of the fires they're not telling me and I'm sure they would seeing we have the most active group of Spyder owners.

I know you just reported what you were told, I just think you were told the wrong thing.

I spoke to one BRP dealer about the ground wire issue for the SE-5 his reply was "What are you talking about, we have no information from BRP about this issue." I explain that I spoke with BRP and they said it was a SE-5 fix for noise, from the coil pack, just like Lamont stated above.
This dealer has been a BRP dealer for many years and thats all they sell and service SeaDoo's, SkiDoo's, Atv's, and Spyders. Then I called the other dealer that sells an array of products from different manufactures, and I spoke to their shop foreman and he said "sure we know about the wire harness, bring it in will fix it, takes about 20-30 minutes". Both dealers are about 30 minutes apart!
What's up with this? One dealer knows nothing while the other knows something. What's a boy to do?

Don't know if I agree with that. I don't think insurance will reimbruse you for any customizing you did? maybe I'm wrong, if I am, please don't jump all over me...I'm scared to post this

I believe if you have receipts, they will pay.

The next step is for all of this to boomerang on the dealer where he then says that the owner got the story all wrong and they never said it in the first place.

Hope I'm 100% wrong but been there, done that.

+1

What a load of crap!

The dealer's tech should be easily able to fabricate ground wires from material that they should have in stock, namely a few feet of light-gauge wire, four crimp-on wire ends, and a few wire ties. That's what I used when I did the job myself. The grounding is to prevent possible CANbus static which affected shifting on SE5 models, seemd to make engine run a tad smoother but it could be my imagination. Never heard that it had anything to do with fires, which only YOU can prevent, says Smokie.

Let's not "shoot the messenger", I read everything to get an idea if there is something to worry about, resolution or not, etc., I don't want a censored version. Honest, open communication is why we are here, isn't it?

Also, when the steering issues were first brought to light, BRP, and some members of the various forums, just pooh-poohed it, and look where we are today

I agree. People are going to be afraid to ask questions or talk about their concerns if they are given the 3rd degree. Ask for clarification in a nice way, but don't the person posting feel stupid. In an learning environment (which I feel this web site falls into that category) there are NO dumb questions. Just because some of you know more about the Spyder, have been riding longer, etc. doesn't mean you didn't have to 'learn' your way to the top. And no....somebody doesn't have to get shot. :lecturef_smilie: With the huge learning curve the dealers are under, not all of them are at the head of their class...they make comments to owners, who then bring their information here to "discuss". :chat: Lets keep the forum friendly or the snipers will be the only ones on. IMHO. :spyder:

Check your policy to see how much they cover in accessories. Most bike policies cover $3,000-$5,000 in accessories - which should include custom paint jobs, bags, lights, intake parts, etc.

Bike policies are a bit different than cars in that aspect - probably because the acessories are actually attached TO the bike. An example would be a GPS unit. Silly as it sounds - my car insurance will not cover a stolen GPS --- unless it is actually plugged into the car when it is stolen.

I would have to look at my policy to know for sure but I believe my insurance pays up to a thousand dollars for accessories. Anything above that I would have to add a rider policy.

I had both recalls done on my SE5 7/31/08. There is nothing special or complicated about a ground wire other than where it connects. I would not let my Spyder sit waiting for a gnd wire kit. :cus:

If your policy has an "accessories" coverage, it will, mostly, sort of. BTDT.
