• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Do I need a pad spacer when Changing Front Brake Rotors?

Want to change OEM rotors to EBC's. After loosening calipers, before sliding off the rotor, is there room for a spacer to keep the pads open?
Is there even a need for a spacer?

There may be a U Tube on this, but I couldn't find it.

No trick or spacers to changing the front rotors. The EBCs are are direct replacement.
The pads can be depressed by normal direct pressure - not screw-in piston like the rear.
Remove the caliper (2 bolts) and slide it off the rotor like a 2-wheel MC.
Swap rotor, spread pads, reassemble.
Time for a refreshment!

Ted, you don't need any spacer to keep the pads apart. Just wiggle the calipers some and force them all the way back into the calipers. My pads needed changing so I put in EBCs along with the rotors. I was also needing a new rear tire so I did the pads too followed by a trip to Winston for Steve Lewis to change the tire and rotor at the same time.
 
All good advice. It's pretty much a straight swap. I recommend torquing the new rotor in 3 increments to the correct lb. ft. (which I don't remember off hand). You're going to like the improved braking.

A word of caution in regard to the fluid level in the MC. Make sure as you press the pistons back that the fluid level doesn't overflow. If the fluid gets "topped up" as the pads wear down as happens when serviced etc, it will overflow on you. And we know what that fluid does to various finishes...
 
Thanks for all the info. Got it done today without any problems. As Jay said above, it took a bit of wriggling to get one on, but the other one slid on easily. I'll pay for it tomorrow with aching leg muscles.
