• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Do Anyone Here Use Nitogen in your Tires?

What are the advantages
Where do you get your tires converted?
Is there a low cost generator on the market for home use?

Fobo easier & better investment farkle. & actually checking tire pressures, regularly.

on these colder nights I do believe it makes a difference. i know the FOBO Bike TPMS has been sending me an alert letting me know my tire pressures have dropped since the colder air has moved in. bike stays in the garage and does not have nitrogen in the tires.

checked the tire pressures on my truck that lives outside and that has nitrogen in them. pressures never change at all.

:dontknow:

After all atmospheric air is 78% nitrogen air isn't it?

There are some advantages to running pure nitrogen instead of air, but you can only see them at the extreme levels of performance, such as tires for the space shuttle, or perhaps 24 hour racing at Lemans.
For the daily driver, it's better to keep the tire pressure correct than worry about which gas to use. Air is plenty good.
Having said that, if you have a cheap and ready source of compressed nitrogen, go for it !

Smoke and mirrors

I own an auto repair shop. Nitrogen in you tires is a waste of money. As General Bull Right of Laugh In says, "Bull Feathers.":gaah:

nitrogen is a dry inert gas. the advantages of nitrogen are more stable pressure when the tires get hot or very cold.
by not having oxygen in the tires you eliminate the moisture which can slowly do damage to the bead area of the
rim especially chrome plated rims & it damages the core of a tpms valve.
if you can put it in then go for it but don't go crazy to get it.

P.S. air is made up of 78% nitrogen & for nitrogen only to be effective the tire requires 98% purity in the tire

Reading some of the fobo and tire pressure threads It sounds like most tend to put 19+ in front. I did that and went for a ride. the fobo showed it went up over 20.5 on a short ryde. I think ill reset myne back to 18

I ran nitrogen in all my car tires for years. I've learned over the years there is very little benefit (maybe a little longer run between top off because it doesn't seep out as fast) but the inconvenience far outweighed the benefit. IMHO keeping it at proper level with plain air is much more beneficial than worrying about nitrogen. When a nitrogen compressor becomes as ubiquitous as a standard air compressor in the garage maybe it would be worth it.

The handheld converter looks interesting but its not as pure as 'garage quality' nitrogen and is relatively expensive for the benefit. I am personally sticking with FOBO and regular air.

Re: Pressure- naturally pressure will increase when warm but I would think the recommended pressures in the manual would take that into account, hence COLD tire pressure. Inflation should always be measured when tires are cold before riding and whatever few psi it rises after warm is normal.
