• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Do all soft saddlebags fade in the sun?

I bought a set of cheapie Coleman saddlebags at the local WalMart awhile back. They fit well, and hold a good deal of stuff, but I read that a major complaint with them is that they fade rather quickly, and turn a nasty shade of purple. Do all bags do this? Would order a set of Nelson-Rigg bags if they would be more UV resistant.

Kuryakin does

I had a nice Kuryakin trunk rack bag on my Gold Wing & it faded to a gray color, but not purple! Have also had a couple of different tank bags & they faded to gray also. Never had the pleasure of purple. I think Nelson-Rigg has been around for years so they probably are good quality, but never researched them.

Dyes, like inks, are made from a combination of pigments. Some sources of pigment are less stable to UV rays than others. This is why green inks on packaging left exposed to the sun are likely to fade to blue - the yellow pigment is less stable and "bleaches" out over time.

Better quality bags probably use better quality dyes that are more resistant to uv rays; however, over time, they all will fade under continual exposure.

As said above, pretty much everything fades in the sun. I don't know of anything to use to change faded fabric. There is a leather black polish that can be used on gloves, seats, and leather saddlebags. I have it for use on my gloves, and black leather jackets.

You could try it in an inconspicuous place to see if it will not bleed on the fabric. If it does, you would have a real mess.
