• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

I’ve had my SE since October and have 1700 miles on it. The bike has been performing flawlessly and I have been very impressed and surprised, because it had surpassed my expectations. Today I was stuck in traffic for about an hour, with no way out. The temp here at the time was about 60, and the temp gage was at 6 bars. As I moved forward and was able to accelerate slightly and had to stop again, I noticed that the bike acted as if the clutch did not disengage and staled in the middle of traffic still in 1st gear. I could not get it to disengage and couldn’t move the bike, or get it to start because it was in 1st gear, absolutely stranded. Dealer was of absolutely no help and was oblivious of how to help, quote let me get the owners manual and I’ll call you back. I had read on one of the spyder boards that the SE could be shifted into neutral manually and proceeded to figure out how to accomplish this in the middle of traffic. Once I had it in neutral the bike started right up and I was able to get to the house without further problems. This is absolutely unacceptable of a brand new bike! Living in Houston and driving the freeways here I will inevitability run into some type of traffic, and what will happen when it is 90+ degrees at the time. Has anybody had this happen and know how it can be avoided again, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

SOMEONE MENTIONED A RECALL NOT SURE WHICH THEAD I SAW THAT ON

Some people have mentioned clutch roller problems, and this has that ring to it. Sorry dealer is clueless. It still should be fixed under warranty. Find another dealer, or have yours call BRP tech.

I have an SE5 with right at 5000 miles on it and found right off the bat that if it stalls while in gear you have to apply the brake to restart it. If this happens again try just applying the brake to restart.

I love the idea of the SE but after reading about all the problems you guys are having I'm glad I have my SM now.

I stopped it in gear before and found out about the break the hard way too. This time was not the case I tried to start it and it would lurch forward and then all the warning messages started.

I hate to say it but I'm beginning to agree. This is a great machine but the bugs are really scary. Sure hope they can work all of this stuff out.

I had the same thing happen sitting in traffic and started to overheat "the RED LIGHT CAME ON" so I pulled over into the emergency lane shut the machine down. Two police pulled up next to me asked if I was alright explain its a little warm and waiting for traffic to clear. Both said nice RIDE. Press the brakes cause it was still in gear, it started right up then went straight to the dealer to find out why it was heating up. Quote "well we didn't find anything but this machine runs a little warm and we'll put a note in the system." Ever since it hadn't tried to overheat but I have sat in traffic like that one before. Now hearing your story I am worry that I might have a sick Spyder! :spyder:

I would guess that BRP will eventually get these problems worked out. Fact is, any new model vehicle can have its fair share of problems that the manufacturer needs to work through and many SM5s had (or have) problems that needed to be addressed by BRP.

advice for SE5

i have same situation on my SE5 few times. My advice is that you give just a little throttle and gearbox will shift to N or to R...on the beginning i restart :spyder:, now i see that a little throttle help....my :spyder: have 2.600 km and it happens 4 or 5 times...sorry for my bed English...

No offense to the SE ryders, but I think one of the fun things about the Spyder is that it's supposed to be like a motorcycle...to me, nothing is better than hitting the clutch and switching the gears. I like the feel of control and being actively engaged in the driving process.

It's like a manual car vs. an automatic. Sports cars tend to be manual (clutch or paddle) so that the driver can be one with the car and the road. I have always found automatic cars to be easier to ride, but not as much fun...no question in traffic the automatic rules!!

Just my observation...I'm not trying to irritate anyone here...both bikes are great and the idea of even having an automatic (like) motorcycle is a novel idea...

The reason I bought the Spyder was to have a 'safer', more visible motorcycle...in regards to everything else, I wanted to operate the Spyder as close as possible to a motorcycle.

Yup :agree:too! But if they got the bugs out of it, I'm sure it would be alot of fun. It's no fun buying a new machine and then having to deal w/ all the quirks. Seems like alot of people have had many quirks w/ the SM as well. Like the parking break and the nasty squealing that mine has! Even after taking it to the dealer the damn thing still squeals until I just jam on the breaks - that shuts it up for a little while. New vehicle - count on problems.
