Differents between brakes

Being that my spyder is in the shop. I Decided to ride my HD FLHTC. What a mind awaking. Took off, shifter was in a different place, so was the brake peddle. Not use to putting my feet down. By the time I had gone a few miles I had it under control. I did notice. The brake peddle on the HD was better than the Spyder. When you step on the brake. You know you are stepping on a good hard peddle. Unlike the spyders brake, which feels more like a marshmallow, and have the push it down at lease 2" before you stop. I have been thinking about installing a 1: rubber pad to the peddle. Just so I won't have to push the peddle down so far.:chat:

I don't get a marshmallow feeling at all with the Spyder brakes. I'll have to check mine but I don't think I have to go 2" before I get braking.

Hydraulic brakes can feel softer than cable brakes but hydralulic brakes are less prone to sudden lock-up and easier to manage than cable brakes.

Mine is just the opposite. I know my Sportster is no FLHTC, but I have to apply a lot more pressure to my Sportster brake than the Spyder. The Sportster reminds me of the cars of old before power brakes became the norm.

Is your parking brake working and properly adjusted? If it's out of adjustment your brake pedal travel WILL increase.

I started to get a Brake Fault on the ride down to the LA meet but everything worked fine so I didn't get it checked until my return home. I took it in to my dealer and when hooked up to the computer they found the brake pressure low. I had always thought the braking was not as good as all my other bikes but just ignored it. They bled the entire system and felt there was some air in the lines. What a difference :2thumbs: I now had firm brakes and it would stop on a dime. It was never this good. I would suggest having your dealer check the brake hydraulic pressure.

Not sure what thicker pads would do for you. Typically, the OEM pads are as thick as will fit between the caliper and rotor.

I used to take my dirt bike pads (and shoes too) to a brake company. They had bulk friction materials in many different compounds and thicknesses. I'd pick the one I wanted and they would either rivit or glue the material to my parts.

It was less expensive than buying the brake parts and I got the performance I was looking for.
