• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Did I screw up? I just ordered a Michelin Defender 215/60R15 rear tire for my 2012 RTS. Tell me if I dun good or at least
not too badly.

thanks,

kennyf

I'm not familiar with that tire or tread design, but the size will work! Do you have any pics of the tread design or specs for the tire?

Thanks for the quick reply. I've wasted far too much money over the years buying dumb stoopid stuff.
I wanted the Michelin Aqua Edge but it's no longer available.
I'd post the picture but when it comes to puters I'm lucky just reading the forum & sending/receiving
email.

Here's the tread design........

The tire you selected has a lower speed rating than the OEM tire, and a less open tread design. It also looks like it has a slightly asymmetrical tread design. I would be careful not to use it at high speeds, monitor the heat closely, and be very careful riding in the rain until you know if it hydroplanes readily. JMHO

Tires with asymmetrical tread patters were designed to have specific inside and outside placements. In some cases the rubber compound also differs. It is possible you'll notice more slip going around some corners, while the same won't be true in the opposite direction.

Thinking of how a car would corner, the weight would shift to the outside of the tire, so that edge was designed to provide better cornering. the same would not hold true mounted on a Spyder where the back wheel would have to have the same properties across both outside edges.

The defender is an 90,000 mile rated tire which replaced the Hydroedge which is no longer manufactured. Have a set in my Prius, love them, and was considering using them on a Spyder when I finally have one of my own.:ohyea::clap:

I sold tires years ago...

And the asymetrical design is the first thing that worried me... It obviously has different coefficients of friction on each side, and there is no opposing tire on the other side to counterract that... not sure I would ride on it... IMHO.

Thanks Everyone

Thanks for all the replies & info.. Speed shouldn't be too big a factor in my case. The older I get the slower I get.
But, the speed limit here is soon to be 80.
Leaving Tuesday for the BMW Rally in Tennessee so I should get a feel for it before I get back.

costco

Costco had it for few dollars less or so their website says. calling tomorrow. now you got me worried kenny my bald spots are showing too!

What about 60 mph in reverse??

Apparently NOT. 300 plus miles @ 70+mph on State & US Highways on the Michelin Defender.
The only difference in the speedometer is more accurate. Before you ask, we even got a bit of rain. Not to seem too cocky but it works better in the rain than the OEM Tires.
ABNormy, got yours installed? You'll be happy!
