Did Apple found inspiration from Braun design?

While often called an innovative / artsy company. Much of the apple world is not as "out of the box" as people think.

I will give them credit for building the tablet market and home PC, however, their continued notion to control access and what does and does not happen on their devices is quite frightening. Apple is on the edge of the knife of being public enemy number 1. When that happens all the technology and years of "oh I dont have those issues because I have a mac" will be pushed and put to the test. Could go poorly.

While I love my Mac and apple products, I agree 100%

Love them or hate them... they were at the right place at the right time and did the right things..... and the Android based phones and tablets would NOT be what they are today without the various i-products.

The tablet market barely existed before the ipad... then all hell broke loose.
Ditto on the smartphones and portable music players.

Pertaining to their recent win in court... I don't doubt for a minute that Samsung deliberately tried to make something VERY iphone like.. ditto for the entire Android OS. While one similar function or feature here and there might be okay.... when you add up the entire Android phone OS... it's a blatant ripoff of iOS....

Some features are better on Android. Some better on iOS.

Some think the lawsuit win will hurt invention for us users... I believe the opposite.... Samsung should go back to the drawing board and come up with something DIFFERENT and INVENTIVE... spend all the R&D that Apple did.... instead of just copy....

At least when Apple copies.... they usually just buy the company out.... which I'm sure they could do with Samsung if they wanted. Apple is now the largest corporation in the world.....EVER...... based on revenue and profits, etc......

Not a huge fan of their computers... but love my iPad and iPhone....

The one thing Apple has over others, is client service. I have never seen such good service when you have a problem! Being a Tech by professional, I like how easy they are, but hate how locked down they are.:banghead:

As a guy that been repairing computers since I was 15, I didn't want to come home and have to fight my own computer and worry about viruses and such, and about 8 years ago I switched to the Mac. I'll admit it takes some getting used to, but at the end of the day my apple computers have been some of the most reliable machines I've ever owned, requiring reboots much less often than the pcs I've owned. And on the rare occasion I've chosen to boot up into windows, my Mac has been the singularly fastest windows machine ive ever had. However, having a good product doesn't excuse the direction they have been leading their business in recent years.

Nothing makes apple products better than jailbreaking them. You will be sble to do everything the gifs claim you can't. I have Macs, PCs, iOS devices, Linux and Android, so I don't descriminate much. Apple HW is top notch their blatant lies about their products and cover ups when there's an issue is just plain annoying.

I'll never understand the Samsung law suit! Whether or not they copied designs could be debatable, but the make the best displays and the retina displays on iOS products are made by them as well, so I don't see how they are still married. Seems Samsung could charge them way more and hurt them bad, or stop making Apple displays.

Unless of course my info on their partnership is bogus, at which point then there's no question.

In answer to the question, "YES"......

According to the book "Jobs", Steve Jobs admired both Braun and Eames designs so it was natural for him to take that influence and put it into Apple products.

Per the norm, I am completely taken aback and confused by people. Any smartphone could be accused of being an iphone rip off. Same with tablets. And making a broad statement about OS comparability is very dangerous. How something LOOKS, versus how it operates and runs. Very interesting. Apple is at the top of the heap. The evil eye of sauron is coming.

Also apple is just executing SJs plan still. Call back in 8 years. The lawsuit is standard apple attack. Im astonished a judge [Firefly is correct, and assuming it was a jury of "Peers" I am now not surprised because the general populace is less than stellar in intelligence] sided with them. And I hope it is overturned. All apple has done since the ipod touch is resale the same device in different sizes with options (Like added cell technology], my arguement here is that the iPod Touch, iPhone, and iPad are all basically the same device. The fact that your average apple cult member has all 3 is baffling to me, now their OS on their computers are being made to somewhat immulate their phones / tablets / PMPs. So they are catering to the stint of the populace that just wants everything to be uniform and in my personal opinion fairly brain dead. They are deviating down the same common levels as Microsoft did, and that is frightening.

But hey, everyone should use what they like. I own an iPod Nano so I can work out / ride / wear it as a watch. Other than that I have no Apple products and have no intent on purchasing them. I believe their rise to power will be such that they will fall from grace like all other companies, such is the way of economic cycles. There was a time (not to long ago) that apple and apple minded people struggled for recognition and justification. They are now enjoying the turnabout on top, however, all things live and die.

I am an adroid fan, and I love the Nexus 7, which various apple faithful have had praise for, and believe there needs to be an iPad in the 7" market, so it will be the "in between" for iPads and iPod touches. I also found it interesting that there is in fact no such thing as bad press in that Samsung Galaxy SIII phones are now the most sought after pending this trial.

Very interesting indeed. The minor tweeks they had to the Android OS for their phones might be out of bounds, but actually saying that their phones are copies of the iPhones physically is fairly daring and confusing, I would argue they look nothing like the iPhone 4 / 4S, however, perhaps tomorrow when the iPhone 5 is revealed the lawsuit might be more apparent in its nature and feel of the new phone, and obviously everyone will flock to order it (again something I cannot understand, but I do not have a love affair with my cell phone due to being on call for 10 years straight. I currently have a no contract phone and less than 50 dollar celluar bill because I use my tablet for all the other fun stuff (including my now FREE texting!).

Ever watch star trek the next generation? The tablets in that "look" very similar to the iPad. Roughly same dimensions, same rounded corners, responds to touch. How apple can patent a shape is beyond me.

It went way before that. Pretty sure 2001 had the pads, if not 2010.

It was a jury that made the decision on the case... not a judge. At what point is something considered unique enough to be patented or copy-written? 60%? 70% 90% ????

Try making a swoosh that is 60% similar to the Nike one and see how far you get selling those clothes... legally. Why should a device like a smartphone be any different? Like I said.. if the Android only had a few similar features and looks as an iphone... I think they'd be okay... but that isn't what they did.... they came out with a directly competing product to the iphone that easily imitated 90% of the iphone.

The Jobs book was really eye-opening... great read....

because there are oh so many ways to implement a touch screen ui and still be intuitive and user friendly?

Samsungs issues / case and "Android phones" are completely separate concepts. Samsungs phones were androids but all androids arent samsungs

Yes.. there are many ways to do it. Finger touch vs. stylus. Pinch/stretch to enlarge vs. double tapping, different ways of scrolling, popping up windows, selecting items, etc.....

Like I said.... a few things in common is one thing.. but to blatantly make it 90% like the competing product is just wrong....

But I will agree that patents and copyrights may need to have a smaller time period in this day and age.... perhaps only 3 to 5 years on such devices....
