• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. DESS KEY ERROR

Well, I got the bad news today. My 2014 RT has a bad DESS Module. BRP told my dealer that the 2014 RT's has a potential problem with the key module going out around 6K-8K miles on a bike. BRP needs to put out an recall or maintenance notice. I'm glad it happened at home and not on a trip. Thanks

They did...

It is a known issue with some of the 14's and 15's. Your dealer should have also made you aware. Unfortunately they seem to not know which ones and only after they failed were able to change out the failed units.... :banghead:

I think BRP is riding this issue out without doing a recall...when these machines are out of warranty it will be on our dime...I've already had three modules replaced...For the owners peace of mind they should extend the warranty forever on this problem and have a way for the owner to disable the DESS...Having a $30,000 bike and every time you turn it off away from home you need to wonder if its going to start the next time...And forget about their roadside assistance if your any distance from a dealer...The last time mine left me down the towing company wanted around $500.00 out of my pocket to roll back it back to the dealer...I left it set in someone's driveway and got a ride home and went and picked it up with my truck and trailer and towed it back, ALL on my dime...Just makes you proud...EVERYTHING is about $$$$$$...BRP needs to get their SH*T together on this PIA issue...larryd

I started a thread "D.E.S.S KEY CODE AGAIN" on 8/13/15 by Deanna777.

Their is a lot of excellent info on that thread, it happens again, take a picture ( show it the picture to your dealership) also, the D.E.S.S. module is UNDER WARRANTY, and have your dealership OPEN UP A CASE WITH BRP. I
f it happens again try this" turn on/off immediately and DO NOT LET YOUR SYSTEM SHUT DOWN do this for 4 to 5 cycles".

This is what a BRP tech sent me via email ( thru my dealership) We have had cases where a cell phone or magnetic card, placed near the ignition cause this. This includes any device that may emit some type of frequency". Part # for the D.E.S.S. module is: 710004190, and the part # for the ignition switch is: 710004413.

I have a 2014RTS-SE6 and I have had the D.E.S.S Module( replaced twice) and the ignition switch replaced once,( mileage when I had the first D.E.S.S. Module replaced was 6,994) and the mileage on the 2nd D.E.S.S. Module was : 8,740).

Please post on the " D.E.S.S. KEY CODE AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!! " I would like to keep that Thread going so new/and current spyder owners can find excellent/useful info. I have posted pictures on that thread.

I have had several people send me pm's saying " Thanks for your help" on the D.E.S.S. error.

DESS at Spyderfest

My 2014 RTL with 6,000 miles went out yesterday (Thursday) at Spydefest. I left home at 4:00 a.m. expecting to have some lighting installed by Tricled and ride home that night or maybe Friday if they couldn't work me in. Signed up at Pit Bull at 9:00 and stop[ped for fuel before heading to Spyderfest. DESS occurred one block from PitBUll so I went back. They could look at it in @ 2hours and it would be a one hour fix, so I expected to be through @ noon. At noon, they said it would probably be another two to three hours. Well, catch a cab or wait 2 - 3 hours. Decided to wait. At 4:30 they finished. I raced to Spyderfest, went straight to Tricled and they told me they were fully booked for the rally and couldn't help. Kudos to PitBull for getting me back on the road on one of their busiest days. I certainly wish they had told me at 9:00 or 10:00 or even noon that it would be the end of the day. I was surprised they don;t offer a shuttle but I would have taken a cab. A little disappointed with tricled. I tried to schedule an appointment by email but they declined and said they would have plenty of support at the Rally so I needn't worry. Wasted day, wasted $50 registration but I did get a nice 350 mile ride in.
